Controller; HVAC

Our client is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead financial operations, construction accounting, HR oversight, and systems/process ownership. This role partners closely with leadership to drive financial visibility, operational efficiency, and compliance.

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries and reconciliations
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and executive financial reporting
• Develop KPIs and provide financial analysis to leadership

• Manage Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and General Ledger functions
• Oversee job cost tracking, intercompany transactions, and vendor/customer billing
• Reconcile bank, credit card, and balance sheet accounts
• Maintain internal controls and ensure financial compliance

• Prepare and support Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting
• Analyze project profitability and job performance
• Participate in financial review meetings with operations teams
• Coordinate with external CPAs and auditors
• Monitor cash flow and regulatory compliance

• Maintain financial dashboards, workflows, and accounting processes
• Strengthen internal controls and reporting efficiencies
• Train and develop accounting team members

• Oversee HR processes including onboarding, performance management, and compliance
• Partner with leadership on employee relations and culture initiatives
• Maintain employee handbook and HR policies

• Manage full-cycle payroll processing (Pay Day software)
• Administer employee benefits (Employee Navigator, Ameritas 401k, Zizzl)
• Ensure payroll compliance, journal entries, and audit readiness

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience (construction industry preferred)
• Prior Controller or senior accounting leadership experience strongly preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (MBA or HR background a plus)
• Strong expertise in job cost accounting, payroll, AP/AR, and financial reporting
• ERP system experience required (Acumatica highly preferred)
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
