Our client in the Alpharetta area is looking for a Sr. Inventory Accountant as they continue to invest in technology, automation, and operational excellence, we are seeking a highly analytical and technically skilled Senior Inventory Accountant to join their Corporate Accounting team.
Position SummaryThe Senior Inventory Accountant is responsible for the accounting, reconciliation, analysis, and reporting of inventory across multiple distribution centers. This individual will partner closely with Operations, Supply Chain, IT, FP&A, and Corporate Accounting to ensure inventory integrity while identifying opportunities to automate processes and improve financial reporting.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting knowledge with advanced ERP and data analysis skills and enjoys leveraging technology to eliminate manual processes and improve business performance.
Responsibilities- Manage month-end close activities related to inventory, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting.
- Perform detailed inventory account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
- Analyze inventory transactions, valuation, reserves, obsolescence, and costing methodologies.
- Support physical inventory counts, cycle count programs, and inventory audit activities.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Partner with Operations and Supply Chain teams to improve inventory accuracy and strengthen internal controls.
- Design, develop, and implement process improvements and automation solutions to reduce manual work and improve reporting efficiency.
- Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders on ERP enhancements, system implementations, and process optimization initiatives.
- Develop automated reports and dashboards utilizing ERP reporting tools, Excel, SQL, Power BI, or similar business intelligence platforms.
- Identify opportunities to improve inventory visibility, financial reporting, and operational decision-making through technology.
- Assist with external audits and provide supporting documentation related to inventory accounting.
- Document accounting policies, procedures, and internal control processes.
- Participate in special projects involving ERP upgrades, acquisitions, process redesign, and financial systems implementations.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required).
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience with significant responsibility for inventory accounting.
- Strong understanding of inventory accounting, cost accounting, inventory valuation, reconciliations, and internal controls.
- Experience working within a distribution, wholesale, manufacturing, or supply chain environment.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including Power Query, Pivot Tables, complex formulas, and data analysis.
- Demonstrated experience automating accounting processes and improving workflows through technology.
- Strong ERP systems experience (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Net Suite, Infor, JD Edwards, or similar).
- Experience with reporting and business intelligence tools such as Power BI, SQL, Tableau, Alteryx, or similar platforms is highly preferred.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across finance, operations, and technology teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
- Experience supporting ERP implementations or financial systems upgrades.
- Experience with inventory costing methodologies including FIFO, weighted average, or standard cost.
- Knowledge of SOX compliance and internal control frameworks.
