Position Overview:

We’re looking for an Assistant Controller to support our Director of Accounting in overseeing financial reporting, month‑end close, account reconciliations, and day‑to‑day accounting operations across assigned markets. You’ll help ensure our financial records are accurate and audit‑ready, mentor a growing team of accounting professionals, and act as a trusted business partner whose insights help guide operational and strategic decisions.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee and coordinate monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for assigned markets, ensuring timely, accurate financial reporting.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure reporting stays compliant with GAAP.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements and management reports that support key business decisions.
  • Hire, train, develop, and mentor a team of up to four Staff, Senior Staff, and Senior Staff II Accountants.
  • Build and continuously improve training documentation and onboarding processes for the team.
  • Monitor the team to ensure deadlines are consistently met.
  • Review and approve journal entries, supporting documentation, and monthly reports (dashboards, land bank billing accruals, housing WIP, RENO, fixed asset schedules, customer deposits, and more).
  • Review and approve bank and balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution of open items.
  • Prepare quarterly schedules and support broader financial reporting requirements.
  • Support special projects, system implementations, and other organizational initiatives.
  • Maintain organized, audit‑ready documentation and support internal and external audit requests.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally and take on stretch assignments (lot stat, FIN 46, land roll‑forwards, and more) as part of your ongoing development.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Prior supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
