At the YMCA of Metro Atlanta, we serve communities across the state with a mission to positively impact lives. We invite a dedicated After school Counselor II to join our team.

Nature and Scope

Under the direction of the After school Program Director(s) and Site Director, the After school Counselor II leads assigned groups in planned activities that support the program’s goals.

Responsibilities
  • Lead assigned groups in planned activities that build skills essential for school success.
  • Create an environment with activities and instruction supporting program goals.
  • Discuss and report any concerns with the Site Director.
  • Maintain a personal file to remain in compliance with Bright from the Start (BFTS) and the YMCA.
  • Compile attendance records and other pertinent information required by the program.
  • Coordinate supply orders with the Site Director.
  • Attend BFTS, YMCA and other training courses as scheduled.
  • Maintain BFTS annual training hours.
  • Consult with the Site Director on concerns related to student development or behavior.
  • Provide input into program planning and development.
  • Complete monthly self‑assessments of the program.
  • Assist students with virtual learning assignments as required by their school district.
Requirements
  • Must possess Para Pro Certification or AA/BA degree validated with GAPDS.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • 3+ years of experience working with school-age children in a group setting.
  • Must obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid certification within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and online platforms such as Google Classroom and Zoom.
  • Must pass a Bright from the Start (BFTS) background check.
Preferred Requirements
  • Prior experience working with school‑aged children in a licensed facility.
Ergonomic Requirements

Bending, stooping, standing, sitting, lifting up to thirty pounds, seeing, hearing, and keyboard input.

Employment Requirements
  • Ability to pass a pre‑employment background check, including Criminal Record check, Drug Screening, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), and reference check per company policy.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship.
