Job SummaryReporting to the Director of CLASS (Center for Learning and Academic Support Services), the Assistant Director of V-CLASS (Virtual Center for Learning and Academic Support Services) serves as a strategic leader responsible for the development, implementation, assessment, and expansion of Augusta University's virtual academic support services. This position provides comprehensive leadership for online tutoring, academic coaching, embedded virtual support, academic recovery initiatives, digital learning resources, and student success interventions tailored for undergraduate, graduate, professional, online, hybrid, clinical, and non-traditional learners.
The Assistant Director manages day-to-day V-CLASS operations and directly supervises professional staff, graduate assistants, peer educators, and virtual academic support personnel. Key responsibilities include leading strategic planning, program development, technology integration, assessment, and data-informed decision-making.
The role collaborates extensively across campus with faculty, academic departments, Online Learning, IT, Institutional Effectiveness, and Student Success units to integrate support services seamlessly into virtual learning environments, advancing AU's goals for enrollment growth, retention, persistence, and degree completion.
The duties include, but are not limited to:
VIRTUAL ACADEMIC SUPPORT LEADERSHIP AND STRATEGIC PLANNING:- Provide strategic leadership for V-CLASS, Augusta University's comprehensive virtual academic support initiative.
- Develop and implement short-term and long-term strategic plans supporting online, hybrid, graduate, professional, and non-traditional student success.
- Establish vision, goals, policies, operational frameworks, and performance benchmarks for virtual academic support services.
- Lead institutional initiatives supporting enrollment growth, retention, persistence, credit momentum, and degree completion.
- Manage budgets, staffing plans, resource allocation, and long-range program sustainability.
- Collaborate with Academic Affairs, Enrollment & Student Affairs, Online Learning, and academic colleges to advance virtual student success initiatives.
COLLABORATION:
- Collaborate with faculty to embed virtual tutors, academic coaches, and support resources into online and high-risk courses.
- Partner with academic colleges and student success units to develop targeted interventions.
- Serve on university committees, task forces, and strategic initiatives supporting student success, online learning, and academic achievement.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to utilization, retention, persistence, DFW reduction, registration behaviors, and student engagement.
- Utilize Jag
360, Banner, Slate, Tableau, Crystal Reports, D2L, and other systems to assess program effectiveness. - Prepare executive reports, dashboards, annual assessments, and strategic recommendations.
- Lead assessment efforts supporting accreditation, strategic planning, and institutional effectiveness initiatives.
- Utilize predictive analytics and intervention data to inform decision-making and resource allocation.
- Recruit, train, supervise, mentor, and evaluate professional staff, graduate assistants, virtual tutors, peer educators, and academic coaches.
- Develop onboarding programs, certification pathways, and continuing education opportunities for virtual support personnel.
- Monitor performance metrics and service quality standards.
- Create leadership development opportunities for peer educators and graduate assistants.
- Ensure compliance with university policies and best practices.
