Position

Mechanical Engineer

We are seeking a mid-level Mechanical Engineer with hands‑on design experience in steam generation, boiler systems, and high‑pressure piping. This role owns the full lifecycle of mechanical projects—from scoping and design through commissioning and optimization. This role will be a key contributor to the success of the company and be involved in a variety of capital projects at different stages of development including feasibility assessments, conceptual design, detailed engineering, and project construction.

The Mechanical Engineer will be expected to engage directly with clients, partners, and vendors to support the development of each project.

This position is in our Alpharetta, GA office location.

Role and Responsibilities

A Mechanical Engineer is responsible for (1) supporting consulting engagements such as feasibility assessments, (2) working on a team through project development activities from concept development through detailed design engineering, (3) supporting project construction oversight, management, system startup and commissioning.

The role will include:
  • Design and specify firetube and watertube boilers, deaerators, economizers, steam headers, condensate return, and blowdown systems.
  • Develop PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications, data sheets, and perform equipment sizing.
  • Apply ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, ASME B31.1/B31.3, NBIC, and applicable standards.
  • Lead commissioning, troubleshooting, and startup of steam & boiler systems.
  • Manage project scope, cost estimates, schedules, RFQs, vendor selection, and contractor oversight for various types of infrastructure upgrade projects.
  • Support reliability initiatives including root‑cause analysis, corrective actions, and efficiency improvements.
  • Business Travel to & from customer sites, 20% of the time is typical.
  • Perform site surveys and data collection on client sites to develop new projects.
  • Management and allocation of both internal and external resources and subcontractors to complete projects and meet deadlines.
Education
  • BS Engineering (Mechanical is preferred; Chemical considered)
  • MS in Engineering Degree a plus
Qualifications
  • Engineer‑In‑Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) a plus
  • Significant experience with computer‑aided design (CAD) and FEE software, specific knowledge of Autodesk products a plus
  • Motivated and dynamic person
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Good inter‑personal skills
  • Experienced individual, with experience in Industrial utility systems (e.g. boilers, chillers, pumping systems, compressed air, HVAC, industrial refrigeration, etc.)
  • 8 or more years of experience with steam and boiler systems in industrial, utility, or large commercial environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of boiler operation, steam distribution, and related water treatment fundamentals.
  • Experience applying ASME codes and pressure‑system safety requirements.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Plant 3D, or similar tools.
  • Strong communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
