Summary

Our client is seeking a Controls Engineer to support the design, development, and implementation of control systems and HMI (Human Machine Interface) applications within a manufacturing and engineering environment.

This role is ideal for an early-career engineer looking to build hands‑on experience working with control systems, automation technologies, and industrial software in a collaborative and fast‑paced setting.

The Controls Engineer will work closely with cross‑functional engineering teams to develop and support HMI applications for generator control switch gear systems, while assisting with troubleshooting, testing, and ongoing system improvements.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to advanced engineering systems, develop technical expertise, and contribute to impactful projects within a growing team.

Key Responsibilities Control Systems & Engineering Support
  • Design, develop, and implement control systems for engineering applications
  • Support development of HMI software for generator control switch gear systems
  • Perform technical calculations related to electrical systems, motor controls, and safety requirements
  • Assist with electrical design planning and project execution timelines
HMI Development & Programming
  • Develop, modify, and implement software programming for HMI applications
  • Configure and test HMI hardware and software systems
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to validate and refine HMI programming
  • Provide support for system installations and field‑related HMI issues
Testing, Troubleshooting & Process Improvement
  • Test, evaluate, calibrate, and modify systems and equipment
  • Troubleshoot hardware and process‑related issues
  • Analyze plant processes and support implementation of system improvements
  • Ensure all systems meet safety standards and regulatory requirements
Collaboration & Project Support
  • Work cross‑functionally with power systems and engineering teams
  • Support multiple concurrent projects while maintaining productivity
  • Participate in design reviews, testing, and validation efforts
Required Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science (Electrical, Mechanical, or related preferred)
  • 2+ years of relevant engineering experience OR equivalent experience

  • Basic understanding of control systems and HMI applications
  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment

Experience with one or more HMI or industrial software platforms, such as:

  • Factory Talk
  • RSView
  • Vijeo
  • Crimson
  • Kepware
  • Eco Struxure Machine SCADA Expert
Preferred

Skills & Qualifications

Experience with programming languages, scripting tools, and work environments, such as:

  • VBA
  • Java Script
  • HTML
  • C++
  • Python
  • SQL
  • Function Block Programming (FBD)
  • Exposure to manufacturing or industrial engineering environments
  • Familiarity with automation systems or switch gear applications
Work Environment
  • This role operates within a combination of office, lab, and manufacturing floor environments
  • Approximately 80% office / 20% shop floor
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) required on the manufacturing floor (safety glasses, safety boots)
