Our client is seeking two Senior Electrical Technical Field Advisors (TFA) with deep expertise supporting power generation and utility-scale electrical systems. Operating out of our Alpharetta, GA division, you will serve as the premier, lead on-site technical authority across customer projects.
In this high-autonomy role, you will deliver expert-level oversight for commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, forced outage execution, hardware/software upgrades, and lifecycle maintenance of critical power plant infrastructure. The ideal candidate functions seamlessly as an independent lead, directs field execution teams, mentors junior personnel, and serves as the primary customer-facing advisor to plant leadership during complex projects and critical outage events.
Key Responsibilities
- Site Leadership: Serve as the lead customer technical advisor throughout project execution, managing relationships with utility operators, EPC firms, and plant leadership.
- Commissioning & Startup: Lead electrical commissioning, synchronization, and startup activities for utility power plants and independent power producer (IPP) projects.
- Troubleshooting & Analysis: Provide expert-level troubleshooting of complex electrical, asset protection, and control system issues. Conduct meticulous root cause analysis (RCA) on electrical failures and engineer corrective action plans.
- Outage Execution: Direct field teams during major planned outages, upgrades, and emergency forced-outage response events.
- System Assurance: Review electrical protection schemes, relay configurations, excitation controls, and overall system performance to ensure maximum plant reliability.
- Mentorship & Safety: Mentor junior field engineers and personnel while ensuring absolute compliance with all OEM safety, regulatory, and customer requirements.
- 15+ years of hands-on electrical field service, commissioning, startup, or utility-scale power generation experience.
- 10+ years directly supporting utility power plants, combined cycle facilities, or mission-critical industrial power complexes.
- Demonstrated Site Authority: Proven background serving as the senior technical authority on-site, with documented experience leading major outage and multi-million dollar commissioning projects.
- Robust Customer-Facing Alignment: Exceptional communication skills with deep experience supporting utility operators, plant executives, and EPC engineering firms.
Power Generation & Electrical Systems
- Turbines & Generation: Heavy expertise in Gas Turbine Generators, Steam Turbine Generators, and Combined Cycle Facility frameworks.
- Apparatus & Distribution: Extensive background managing utility-scale generators, medium and high-voltage (MV/HV) switch gear, power transformers, generator circuit breakers, bus duct systems, and plant electrical distribution paths.
- Control & Protection: Comprehensive mastery over excitation systems, generator controls, synchronization equipment, protective relays, and electrical protection systems.
- Broad familiarity or direct field exposure to industry-standard control topologies and distributed control systems (DCS), including:
- Siemens T3000, Siemens PCS7, and Siemens S7 PLCs, Emerson Ovation, GE Mark VIe, and overarching SCADA architectures.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
- Professional Engineer (PE) License.
- NETA Certification.
- Prior OEM field service experience is strongly preferred.
- Military Nuclear Power background (Navy Nuke) is considered highly relevant.
- 75% to 100% Travel: Frequent, heavy travel to customer sites is required, including readiness for extended field assignments.
- Outage Flexibility: Full ability to support planned outage schedules, unexpected emergency callouts, and rotating shifts.
- Extended Shifts: Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays during critical outage execution windows.
