This role focuses on building and supporting a specialized services practice aimed at reviewing, optimizing, and upgrading DC power plants, rectifiers, and large wet-cell batteries in telco colocation and head-end facilities. You will serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for telco-specific energy and power infrastructure, collaborating closely with field services teams to deliver best-in-class solutions for our customers.

Technical Skill Set
  • Serve as the SME for the optimization and maintenance of critical power and cooling systems in telco facilities, including DC power plants, rectifiers, large wet-cell batteries, UPS systems, generators, inverters, and power distribution systems.
  • Evaluate and recommend upgrades for HVAC systems, CRAC (Computer Room Air Conditioning) units, economizers, and thermal management solutions to enhance cooling efficiency and reliability in high-density environments.
  • Lead assessments and troubleshooting of electrical distribution systems, including switch gear, transformers, and circuit breaker panels.
  • Develop and implement best practices for the lifecycle management of power and cooling assets, including preventive maintenance and failure mitigation strategies.
  • Work closely with customer project teams to evaluate their power and cooling needs, propose optimized solutions, and assist with presenting ROI analyses for recommended upgrades.
  • Serve as a liaison between the customer, field service teams, and utility providers to ensure clear communication and timely resolution of project-related issues.
  • Deliver technical training and resources to field service teams to ensure proper execution of system upgrades and maintenance tasks.
  • Conduct Functional Performance Testing (FPT), load testing, and thermal efficiency testing for power and cooling systems to validate upgrades and optimize performance.
  • Use data from Building Management Systems (BMS) and power monitoring tools to analyze performance trends, identify inefficiencies, and recommend improvements.
  • Provide guidelines and best practices for end customers to monitor and evaluate energy savings using utility interval data, ensuring alignment with utility program requirements and validating incentive calculations.
  • Experience
  • Power and Cooling Systems:
Minimum of 7+ years of hands-on experience in evaluating, optimizing, and maintaining critical power and cooling systems in telco or data center environments.
  • Infrastructure Expertise:
Proven experience with electrical distribution systems, such as transformers, switch gear, circuit breaker panels, and power distribution units (PDUs).
  • Energy Efficiency:
Demonstrated experience in identifying and implementing energy efficiency improvements, including securing utility incentives and rebates.
  • Field Collaboration:
Experience working directly with field service teams to implement, troubleshoot, and test power and cooling system upgrades in live operational environments.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making:
Expertise in leveraging Building Management Systems (BMS), power monitoring platforms, and thermal imaging tools to analyze system performance and recommend improvements.
  • Telco-Specific Facilities:
Prior experience working in colocation, central office, or head-end telco facilities, with a clear understanding of industry-specific challenges and requirements.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Professional Certifications (Preferred / Optional)
  • HVAC-related certifications, such as EPA Universal Certification or NATE (North American Technician Excellence).
  • Battery Maintenance Certification or IEEE-related training.
  • Industry Knowledge
  • Familiarity with industry standards, including IEEE, NEC, NFPA, Telcordia GR-63, and ASHRAE thermal guidelines for telecommunications facilities.
  • Strong understanding of utility incentive programs, rebate processes, and compliance requirements.
