Controls Engineer 4
We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to join a team focused on the design, testing, and commissioning of custom switch gear and generator control systems. The engineer will be responsible for PLC programming, system integration, control panel design, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:- Design, test, and commission low and medium voltage switch gear that control multiple generators in parallel with utility sources.
- Provide guidance to CAD designers for wiring and assembly drawings related to switch gear control systems.
- Develop PLC programs using one or more IEC 61131 languages (e.g., Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram, Structured Text).
- Manage multiple control system projects concurrently.
- Interact with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met on time.
- Create and maintain bill of materials in an ERP system.
- Interpret customer specifications and apply them to control system design.
- Customize PLC hardware and software templates.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering (or related field) with 8–10 years of relevant experience. Open to 2-year technical degrees with 10+ years of experience.
- Experience with PLC platforms such as:
- Schneider Momentum, M340, M580
- Allen-Bradley Control Logix / Compact Logix
- Woodward MSLC, DSLC
- Easy Gen, LS5 Architecture
- Expertise in designing control systems that integrate multi-vendor PLCs.
- Understanding of industry standards and compliance such as NEC, UL 508/891/1558, UL MV, CSA 22-2, ANSI.
- Strong understanding of protective relays and their applications in generator and utility protection.
- In-depth knowledge of complex PLC-based systems and system design philosophy.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proactive problem-solving, interpersonal, and customer service abilities.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Leadership and mentoring experience to guide junior team members or cross-functional teams.
- Work with a core group of 5–8 engineers, reporting to the Engineering Manager.
- Work setting includes both office and air-conditioned manufacturing facility.
