The RoleThe Senior Associate, Trust & Estate SME serves as a technical resource on sophisticated estate, gift, trust, charitable, and wealth-transfer planning.
Partnering with the Senior Advisor, Family Office Advisors, attorneys, CPAs, trustees, and internal specialists, this person will analyze complex client structures, help design planning strategies, prepare technical diagrams and materials, and translate complicated planning concepts into clear guidance for advisors and clients.
This is an individual-contributor position with no direct reports.
What You’ll Do- Collaborate with Family Office Advisors on strategy design and complex case consultation.
- Participate in client meetings as a technical estate-planning specialist.
- Review estate documents, balance sheets, and existing structures to identify planning opportunities.
- Prepare sophisticated estate-planning diagrams in Luminary using legal documents and client financial information.
- Evaluate existing estate plans and trust structures and recommend enhancements or restructuring.
- Help design business-succession, wealth-transfer, and charitable-planning strategies.
- Work with structures such as FLPs, LLCs, GRATs, IDGTs, QPRTs, installment sales, CRTs, CLTs, donor-advised funds, and private foundations.
- Coordinate strategy design and implementation with investment, tax, legal, and insurance specialists.
- Partner with external attorneys, CPAs, trustees, and other client professionals.
- Educate Advisors and Planners on emerging estate, trust, and charitable-planning opportunities.
- Develop white papers, presentations, technical materials, and educational resources for UHNW clients.
- Monitor legislative developments and proactively communicate potential client implications.
- Use AI and specialist planning technology to improve efficiency and client deliverables.
- Maintain rigorous confidentiality, compliance, and professional standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, pre-law, or a related discipline.
- At least five years of estate, trust, charitable, or advanced wealth-planning experience.
- Strong technical command of estate and gift taxation, trust structures, wealth transfer, and charitable-planning strategies.
- Meaningful experience supporting ultra-high-net-worth clients.
- Ability to read and analyze estate-planning documents and complex financial information.
- Strong written, verbal, presentation, and client-communication skills.
- Able to turn complicated technical concepts into clear, practical explanations.
- Highly organized and capable of managing several time-sensitive matters simultaneously.
- Proactive, responsive, discreet, and comfortable operating in a collaborative professional environment.
- Advanced Excel skills and confidence learning industry-specific technology.
- Comfortable using AI responsibly to improve analysis, efficiency, or client deliverables.
- Able to work respectfully and effectively within Blue Trust’s values-led, faith-based service environment.
- Certified Estate Planner designation.
- CPA with an estate or tax concentration.
- Juris Doctor with an estate or tax concentration.
- Experience with Brentmark Estate & Charitable Planner.
- Experience producing estate diagrams in Luminary.
- Familiarity with Bloomberg Industry Group/BNA Portfolios.
- Experience coordinating directly with attorneys, CPAs, trustees, and family-office professionals.
- $90k-$125k salary.
