Hiring Incentive
$5,000 hiring incentive for both Certified and Non-Certified candidates. Starting salary is based on the Public Safety New Hire Pay Matrix. Staffing and compensation are contingent upon final budget approval by the Mayor and City Council. Conditional offers will be extended only after budget adoption.
Job SummaryUnder the supervision of a Detention Supervisor, this position is responsible for the safety, security, care, and control of inmates, as well as the operation and security of the Alpharetta City Jail.
Essential Job Functions- Enforce jail rules and procedures to maintain safety and security
- Process incoming inmates, including booking, classification, searches, and property inventory
- Monitor inmate activities, movements, headcounts, and work details
- Provide inmate services such as meals, medical assistance, visitation, and mail distribution
- Conduct facility security checks, surveillance monitoring, and contraband searches
- Respond to emergencies and assist with restraining disruptive or violent inmates
- Transport inmates as assigned and process inmate releases
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation
- Communicate with inmates, staff, the public, and external partners
- Attend required training and perform other duties as assigned
- Knowledge of jail operations, applicable laws, and inmate rights
- Skill in inmate supervision, conflict resolution, and report writing
- Ability to remain calm in emergencies and make sound decisions
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Understand, interpret, apply, enforce, and make decisions in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local policies, laws, and regulations.
- Interpret and explain jail policies and procedures.
- Gather, analyze, and evaluate facts and evidence and reach sound conclusions.
- Act quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
- Think clearly and act quickly in a variety of situations.
- Accurately observe and remember names, faces, numbers, incidents, and places.
- Control violent people.
- Administer first aid.
- Prepare clear and concise reports and routine correspondence.
- Maintain contact and preserve good relations with the public; respond to requests and inquiries from the general public.
- Meet standards for physical endurance, agility, health, and vision.
- Work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and varied shifts.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Requires physical stamina and mobility, including standing, walking, lifting up to 25 lbs., and the ability to restrain inmates when necessary. Reasonable accommodations may be provided.
