Job description - What does a great Kubernetes Container Platform Engineer (PaaS & CaaS) do at Client? This role covers Kubernetes platforms and infrastructure as code automation. If you have that skill set, please read on.
You will work with the engineering team on Client infrastructure and also consuming Public cloud infrastructure to meet the team plans of self-service automation and orchestration. You will perform several functions from VMware/Pivotal bosh operations and Kubernetes Container Platforms Administration and operations, client onboarding, upgrades and changes. Furthermore, you will be involved in Globalizing the Platform Services offering and standardizing those platform deployments across the enterprise.
The container platform engineer builds and is responsible for the primary platform services needed to meet the full lifecycle of container platforms and ease consumption of those Platform services for our community of 20,000 developers, devops teams. Working as a member of this small, agile team of highly skilled Architects and engineers.
Principal duties & responsibilities- Design, implement and operate container services platform with a focus on integrating these platforms with other tools using good Continuous Integration (CI) and continuous Delivery (CD) pipelines.
- Use automation to increase efficiency; develop an obsessive automation mindset and minimize manual tasks.
- Be meticulous and cautious, identify and balance risks to perform tasks efficiently.
- Analyze, diagnose, replicate, solve and resolve technical issues reported by customers using the Client PaaS and CaaS platforms.
- Write maintainable reusable software and always consider a self-serve approach from the consumer perspective.
- Advance unresolved issues that require more in-depth knowledge in a timely manner.
- Take ownership, handle and maintain status on support requests from business unit customers.
- Report and submit product defects and work with other engineering groups to triage customer/business unit issues.
- Build and peer review knowledgebase articles and product documentation.
- Demonstrated competency in a programming/scripting language, with a strong preference for Go experience and Python.
- Experience designing and implementing Infrastructure as Code APIs using interface definition tools like Swagger.
- Strong understanding of virtual computing environments and concepts such as hypervisors and load balancing.
- Understanding of Identity management, Access Management, and Certificate management (hands-on preferred).
- Experience designing and implementing containerized infrastructure logging and observability tools (e.g., Splunk, Fluentd/Fluentbit, Prometheus/Grafana/Alert manager Suite, Wavefront, APPD).
- Experience with .NET Core and .NET Framework.
- Experience with Open Policy Agent or other policy engines.
- 4-year college degree and 3 years of experience in applicable field OR a sophisticated degree in applicable field; 4 years of proven experience.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience building and maintaining container platforms such as Client/TAS (Pivotal Application Service, Tanzu Application Service), PKS/TKGI (Pivotal Kubernetes services, Tanzu Kubernetes grid), and IBM Red Hat Open Shift.
- Hands-on experience deploying and supporting Kubernetes on at least one public IaaS provider (Azure, Amazon, Google Cloud Platform, Alibaba).
- Operations and/or Systems Administration experience, particularly on UNIX/Linux and Windows.
- Experience with configuration management and leading an infrastructure with hundreds or thousands of servers and dozens of technologies.
- Strong networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, subnetting, timeouts, routing, DNS).
- Knowledge of distributed systems (Windows and Linux) and virtualization software (VMware).
- Automation/CI tools (Concourse, Salt, Fabric, Jenkins, Octopus Deploy, etc.).
- Version control (Git, Git Hub, Git Lab).
- Experience and/or interest in agile methodologies.
- NSX, NSX-T, Panorama experience is a plus.
- Experience in vSphere 7 with TKG is a plus.
- Background in Dev Ops. Strong communicator. On-call experience.
