Position: VP, Staff Cryptography Engineer

Role Summary

The VP, Staff Cryptography Engineer will serve as a key role in safeguarding enterprise multi‑cloud systems, networks, and data. The position is responsible for designing, developing, driving, implementing, leading and managing multi‑cloud Information Security Engineering activities for the Cryptography program, including the underlying capabilities/technologies. Additionally, it acts as a trusted peer and stakeholder advisor, working closely with Information Security Engineering leadership to ensure delivery of the overall program roadmap against the Cryptography strategy and vision.

Responsibilities
  • Adopt and promote engineering excellence by identifying efficiencies and synergies through automation, collaboration, and orchestration.
  • Collaborate with architecture to identify capability gaps, develop requirements, propose solutions, and assist with proof of concepts and testing of solutions.
  • Provide ongoing Dev Sec Ops /Engineering support for a global cryptography program leveraging a portfolio of multi‑cloud data protection capabilities.
  • Manage technology from the ground up, understand gaps within the tech stack, including overlap with other technologies and coverage gaps.
  • Maintain technology from a BAU perspective by ensuring proper change management, disaster recovery, and incident management processes.
  • Act as one of several technical leads on a team of Information Security engineers.
  • Participate in authoring, editing, providing, or reviewing documentation (procedures, standards) to ensure a well‑managed and mature security infrastructure.
  • Partner with peers to prioritize work using Agile processes, ensuring risks, impediments, and asks are brought to leadership in a timely fashion.
  • Play a hands‑on role in engineering and implementing multi‑cloud security measures that protect enterprise applications, computer systems, information, infrastructure, and networks.
  • Design and build multi‑cloud solutions that safeguard the organization’s platforms and systems.
  • Proactively identify problems and articulate solutions and recommendations.
  • Provide day‑to‑day administration and support for multi‑cloud infrastructure related to API security, application security, firewalls, encryption, intrusion detection, PKI, secrets management, vulnerability scanning, security monitoring tools, penetration testing, authentication, web filtering, identity management, and access control systems, including logs and processes.
  • Provide engineering/operations support for multi‑cloud technology and processes, ensuring superior customer service and identifying process improvements.
  • Serve as a leader, mentor, and SME to other Information Security team members and stakeholders.
  • Act as a SAFe Product Owner for cryptographic technologies, accountable for defining, leading, and maintaining the team backlog and product roadmap.
  • Support a “you build it, you own it” model, ensuring technology built by Engineering is also supported from an operations perspective.
  • Work closely with Information Security program managers, scrum masters, and architects to convey technical impacts to development/engineering timelines and risks.
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering or other performance for Information Security/Technology and other functions across Synchrony.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise and Information Security/Technology application owners, architects, developers, engineers, and governance teams to drive program delivery.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in Application Development, Information Security, Systems Engineering or related field; or high school diploma/GED with a minimum of 7 years equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in Cloud.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in Cryptography.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in Dev Sec Ops .
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in leadership roles (Cryptography Engineer preferred).
  • Minimum 4+ years of experience with regulatory compliance and information security management frameworks (e.g., COBIT, ISO
    27001, NIST).
