Director, Construction & Facilities

Overview

The Director, Construction & Facilities is responsible for leading the company’s Construction and Facilities functions to support operational excellence, brand consistency, and profitable growth across company-owned and franchise locations. This role is accountable for the planning, execution, and oversight of all construction-related activities including remodels, relocations, conversions, seasonal stores, and capital reinvestment projects, as well as ongoing facilities maintenance and asset lifecycle management.

This leader ensures projects are delivered safely, on time, on budget, and in compliance with all regulatory, brand, and operational requirements, particularly in complex jurisdictions such as California. The role partners closely with Operations, Marketing, IT, Finance, and Franchise partners to ensure construction and facilities execution supports store readiness, sales performance, and guest experience. The Director owns the development and management of the annual Capital and Facilities budgets and is responsible for building scalable processes, vendor accountability, and strong internal controls to support a growing and evolving store portfolio.

This role will be responsible for the following areas:

• Leadership & Team Development
  • Directly leads Construction and Facilities teams, including project managers, facilities managers, and support staff.
  • Recruits, develops, and performance-manages a high-performing team aligned with HBH values and execution standards.
  • Establishes clear roles, accountability, escalation paths, and decision frameworks across construction and facilities.
  • Drives a culture of ownership, urgency, and disciplined execution.
• Construction Management
  • Leads all construction-related activities for:
    • Remodels (FOH/BOH)
    • Relocations
    • Torch conversions
    • Seasonal and pop-up stores
    • Capital reinvestment and refresh initiatives
  • Ensures early planning and cross-functional alignment on scope, permitting, health department requirements, IT readiness, and store operations.
  • Oversees vendor selection, bid processes, contract execution, change order controls, and schedule management.
  • Ensures all construction activity adheres to brand standards, life-safety codes, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains tight control over project timelines, costs, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provides executive-level visibility into project status, risks, and financial exposure.
• Facilities & Asset Management
  • Oversees facilities maintenance strategy for all stores, including preventive maintenance, reactive repairs, and lifecycle planning.
  • Owns Corrigo (or equivalent) governance, ensuring work order discipline, cost controls, and “Need vs. Want” decision frameworks.
  • Leads vendor strategy including national and regional service providers to drive consistency, uptime, and cost efficiency.
  • Manages response to high-risk issues including:
    • Moisture intrusion
    • HVAC/R failures
    • Life-safety and compliance matters
  • Ensures store uptime and readiness during peak operational periods, including holiday seasons.
  • Develops asset tracking and disposition plans for tools, equipment, and vehicles.
• Financial & Capital Accountability
  • Develops and manages the annual Construction and Facilities capital budgets (> $10MM).
  • Tracks Cap Ex and OpEx spend with forecasting accuracy and variance reporting.
  • Ensures strong financial controls around PAFs, approvals, and capital tracking.
  • Partners with Finance to align capital deployment with business priorities and ROI expectations.
• Process, Risk & Continuous Improvement
  • Establishes standardized processes, playbooks, and templates for construction and facilities execution.
  • Drives continuous improvement across construction delivery, vendor performance, and facilities response.
  • Proactively identifies execution risks and implements mitigation plans.
  • Ensures compliance with employment, safety, and regulatory requirements in partnership with HR and Legal.
• Other Functions
  • Partners cross-functionally with Operations (Franchise & Company-Owned), Marketing, IT, Legal, HR, and Finance.
