Kelly Engineering is seeking a Technician to join one of our largest clients in the Chemical Manufacturing industry at their Pilot Plant in Alpharetta, GA.

Ideal Candidate
  • Knowledge of chemical operations and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
  • 2+ years industry experience in a lab, plant, manufacturing, or production environment.
  • Ability to follow SOPs, run reports, read and interpret process drawings, while focused on quality and safety measures.

Compensation: $30.00 - $35.00/hr

Shift: Monday - Thursday (four 10-hour shifts). If required to come in on Friday, OT will be applied

Position Summary

The Pilot Plant Technician provides chemical process operation and maintenance support to Pilot Plant operations. This position operates and maintains the work processes necessary to achieve the unit’s safety, quality, reliability, cost, and production goals.

Position Accountabilities

Work under the supervision of scientists/engineers to support the development of new products and processes safely and efficiently.

Safety
  • Participate in peer and area coordinator safety audits and attend all required safety meetings & training.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workplace, meeting established housekeeping standards
  • Practice and participate in safety training and/or meetings, safely perform all activities required to successfully operate the unit, and take responsibility for the personal safety of self and others.
  • Report any process upset, spill, injury, chemical release, security event, etc.
  • Be a part of root cause analysis investigations and problem-solving teams.
Pilot Plant Trials/Experiments
  • Assist product/process development groups in scale-up of lab synthesis to pilot plant trial, and then on to commercialization.
  • Assist with manufacturing facility support through pilot plant trials. Adheres to pilot plant SOPs, checklists, and work processes.
  • Operate equipment used in the pilot plant, including reactors, feeders, scrubbers, columns, heat exchangers, piping networks, hoses, pumps, valves, instruments, vessels, scales, tanks, meters, lab ovens.
  • Take readings on equipment as required, monitor the process and equipment for proper operations, take samples as needed, and react to emergency conditions.
  • Perform manual loading and unloading of materials or equipment as required
  • Split time between field operation of equipment and control room operation
  • Accurately record experimental work in laboratory notebooks and communicate observations.
  • Collaborate effectively with peers in a self-directed environment while maintaining alignment with Supervisor.
  • Provide operational guidance and assistance to internal and external stakeholders as needed.
Mechanical Integrity
  • Prepare the equipment for maintenance.
  • Perform minor maintenance and troubleshooting as required on process equipment.
  • Provide mechanical and preventative maintenance support for pilot plant operations.
  • Communicate specifications and obtain price quotes for new parts and equipment from external resources.
  • High School Diploma, or equivalent
Preferred Education
  • Associate’s degree or Technical Certificate/Diploma in related field
  • 2+ years related experience in operation and/or maintenance of industrial/mechanical equipment
  • Knowledge of operations and maintenance of mechanical equipment (i.e. pumps, piping equipment, reactors, etc.)
  • Basic PC skills required for electronic communications, incident/accident reporting, and access pilot plant information.
  • Ability to read and interpret process drawings.
  • Troubleshooting abilities to correctly identify causes of production equipment and process upsets.
  • Perform all tasks that are required to operate the chemical processing unit at the facility.
  • Ability to clear, isolate, and prepare equipment for maintenance work.
  • Ability to efficiently and accurately communicate and work with peers, superiors, engineers, and other unit personnel in a constructive manner.
  • Ability to complete annual training and progression task lists as assigned.
  • Ability to take process samples, interpret data, and make process adjustments within SOP.
  • Knowledge of Process Safety Management preferred
