Test Technician Job Description
This role focuses on performing advanced testing, diagnosis, and repair of complex electronic assemblies and systems. The Test Technician identifies and resolves issues at the component level, ensures all products meet strict manufacturing and quality standards, and supports continuous improvement by providing feedback on designs and test procedures. The position involves hands‑on work with electronic subassemblies, printed circuit boards, and test fixtures in a clean electronics manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities- Perform advanced testing and diagnosis of complex electronic assemblies and systems using appropriate test equipment and procedures.
- Identify, analyze, and troubleshoot circuit boards and assemblies down to the component level, ensuring accurate fault isolation and repair.
- Assemble, test, troubleshoot, and repair electronic subassemblies and instruments, including printed circuit boards and related components.
- Carry out PCB testing and perform component‑level soldering and rework to correct defects or implement design changes.
- Read and interpret technical documentation, schematics, and specifications to guide testing, assembly, and repair activities.
- Design and build test fixtures for equipment as needed to support efficient and accurate testing processes.
- Provide engineering suggestions for design alterations and improvements to test procedures based on testing outcomes and observations.
- Maintain quality control throughout the testing and repair process and adhere to ISO 9001:2015 standards.
- Verify that all products comply with strict lean manufacturing and rigorous quality standards before release.
- Record testing data, accurately log errors, and document repairs in a clear and organized manner to support traceability and continuous improvement.
- Prior hands‑on experience in electronics manufacturing, testing, or a related electro‑mechanical field.
- High school diploma with 1–3 years of electronics experience.
- Proficiency with electronic testing equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers.
- Ability to interpret schematics, technical documentation, and assembly drawings.
- Strong understanding of basic electrical principles and practical application in troubleshooting and repair.
- Demonstrated soldering skills, including PCB soldering and desoldering, and component replacement.
- Experience with electronics troubleshooting, including diagnosing issues on printed circuit boards and electronic assemblies.
- Ability to use test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other electronics test instruments effectively.
- Familiarity with IPC 610 standards for electronic assemblies.
- Capability to perform wiring, electrical assembly, and repair work with attention to detail.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in an electronics manufacturing environment.
- Hands‑on experience with PCB testing and rework down to the component level.
- Comfort using a range of test equipment and tools, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, and specialized electronics test equipment.
- Ability to design and build simple test fixtures to support production and testing needs.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and quality‑focused production practices.
- Experience working within ISO 9001:2015 quality management systems.
- Strong documentation skills for recording test results, logging errors, and documenting repairs.
- Ability to collaborate with engineering teams by providing practical suggestions for design changes and test procedure improvements.
