Responsibilities

NV5 is seeking a highly motivated Senior Archaeologist to join our growing Cultural Resources team in Florida. This full-time position will support a diverse portfolio of transportation, energy, land development, and municipal projects throughout the Southeast and beyond. The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership on archaeological investigations, oversee project execution, contribute to business development initiatives, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality cultural resource services.

The Senior Archaeologist will prepare and review a variety of technical documents, including Management Summaries, Phase I, II, and III Archaeological Resource Identification and Evaluation Reports, Assessments of Effects, historic contexts, data recovery plans, and other cultural resource compliance documentation. This individual will conduct archaeological research, field investigations, and data recovery efforts to identify, evaluate, and manage archaeological resources while ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within budget.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and conduct Section 106 compliance studies and due diligence assessments for transportation, infrastructure, energy, land development, and municipal projects, including archaeological surveys, resource identification and evaluation, and effects assessments.
  • Perform background research using archival sources, site records, historic maps, county surveys, property records, cultural resource databases, and context studies to support archaeological evaluations.
  • Delineate archaeological site boundaries utilizing GPS and GIS technologies, document findings through photography and mapping, and develop recommendations for resource management.
  • Support or lead additional Section 106 activities, including agency coordination, stakeholder engagement, consulting party meetings, public involvement efforts, and mitigation planning.
  • Develop and implement archaeological mitigation strategies, including data recovery plans and field investigations.
  • Conduct artifact analysis, laboratory processing, documentation, and curation activities in accordance with federal, state, and client requirements.
  • Prepare avoidance, minimization, and preservation recommendations for National Register-listed or National Register-eligible archaeological properties.
  • Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and deliverables while coordinating effectively with clients, regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Maintain clear, proactive communication with project managers, technical staff, clients, and stakeholders to ensure project success.
  • Contribute to business development, client relationship management, proposal preparation, and strategic growth initiatives, with a focus on expanding NV5's cultural resources and archaeological services throughout the Southeast United States.
