high school diploma or ged preferred; two years of experience in the construction, repair, and/or maintenance of public infrastructure or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

must possess and maintain a valid georgia driver's license; must obtain and maintain flagging certification within the time frames established by the department.

must have mastery of bricklaying, masonry, pipe-fitting, concrete finishing, or related skill. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

the purpose of this classification is to perform semi-skilled and skilled manual work associated with the construction, maintenance, and upkeep of county streets/roads, rights-of-way, water distribution and collection systems, storm water and drainage systems, public facilities and property, and other infrastructure as part of a public works/utilities crew. This class is reserved for those maintenance workers that perform skilled work associated with brick laying, masonry, pipe-fitting, and concrete finishing.

• performs skilled labor in labor in support of construction, maintenance, and upkeep projects: works independently or takes a lead role in setting; mixing, pouring, and finishing concrete and cement; laying bricks; fitting and laying pipe; and other related skilled tasks.
• performs manual labor in support of construction, maintenance, and upkeep projects: lifts, moves, loads, and unloads materials, equipment, tools, furniture, and supplies; digs ditches, trenches, and holes manually or utilizing power equipment; shovels, rakes, spreads, compacts, and levels dirt, rock, asphalt, cement, and other materials; retrieves supplies, materials, tools, equipment and other items and runs various errands as needed; collects and transports materials, supplies, tools, and equipment to and from the worksite;
  
  and removes litter, debris, and deceased animals from roadways and other county property.
