Backend/API Developer

We are seeking an experienced Backend/API Developer with a strong focus on Java programming to join our team as a contractor. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of developing robust backend systems and APIs, demonstrating expertise in Java and related technologies. This role requires a deep understanding of software development principles, excellent problem solving skills, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems and APIs using Java.
• Collaborate with front end developers and other stakeholders to integrate user facing elements with server side logic.
• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code while adhering to best practices and coding standards.
• Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
• Debug and troubleshoot issues in existing applications and APIs.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
• Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends to continuously improve development processes.
• Document technical specifications and maintain comprehensive documentation for developed systems.

Mandatory

Skills:

• Strong proficiency in Java programming (deal breaker skill).
• Extensive experience with RESTful API design and development.
• Solid understanding of database technologies (e.g., SQL, No
  
  SQL).
• Experience with version control systems, preferably Git.
• Familiarity with cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure) and microservices architecture.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Preferred

Skills:

• Experience with Java frameworks such as Spring or Hibernate.
• Knowledge of containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Dev Ops practices.
• Experience in Agile/Scrum methodologies.
• Understanding of security best practices in API development.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 10-15 years of professional experience in backend development, with a strong focus on Java.
• Proven experience in developing and deploying APIs in a production environment.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast paced environment.
