GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
:

Under the supervision of the Chief Operating Officer, the Pharmacy Director is responsible for the planning, evaluation, supervision, coordination, implementation, and administration of comprehensive and effective quality Pharmacy programs (new & existing) at the Alpine Clinic and will include working with the Campo- based Staff Pharmacist on a regular basis. Duties include providing professional advice/consultation concerning drugs and their administration to patient/staff on timely basis, the maintenance of a drug formulary, establishing & maintaining excellent patient/staff relations, maintaining, licensure, reporting of data and the billing of revenues from customers.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Oversees the operations of the Pharmacy Department, which include staffing, scheduling, inventory management and supervision of the Staff Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technician, Lead Pharmacy Technician, Clinical Pharmacy Coordinator, Vaccine Coordinator and other temporary support staff, as needed
  • Leads personnel, including hiring, and performance evaluations.
  • Oversees training programs and identifies training needs.
  • Develops short- and long-term goals for the department in conjunction with the Southern Indian Health Council.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
  • Responsible for the Pharmacy department's opening/closing, efficient operations, timely billing of service fees to clients, and submission of billing status reports. Orders pharmaceutical drugs & supplies from the lowest cost vendors and originates/maintains low-cost vendor purchase agreement contracts.
  • Responsible for preparation and submission of monthly Board reports for the Alpine and Campo Pharmacy department's objectives and performances to the Administration. Maintains and reviews records & reports for the Pharmacy program and provides for quality assurance. Responsible for submission, monitoring and reporting data to various end-users, i.e., Administration, Indian Health Services, and federal/state/county sources, as required.
  • Work closely with physicians, nurses, other healthcare providers, and administrators to ensure patient care goals are met.
  • Must attend monthly Medical Staff meetings, as necessary. Presents monthly Medical Staff department meeting information to staff. Attends required professional educational meetings to maintain knowledge and develop new professional skills. Chairs quarterly Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
  • Develop and manage the pharmacy budget, ensuring efficient use of resources and cost-effectiveness.
  • Oversees the 340B drug pricing program ensuring compliance with federal regulations.
  • Responsible for maintenance and renewal of Pharmacy licensing.
  • Comply with all SIHC policies & procedures and develops/maintains Pharmacy departmental policies & procedures. Other Administrative duties, as assigned.
  • Reviews all drug orders for completeness and appropriateness of medication and consults with the prescribing physician immediately to correct any problem areas. When appropriate, reviews patient history, current therapy, diagnosis, allergies, and recent drug history prior to dispensing patient history, current therapy, diagnosis, allergies, and recent drug history prior to dispensing any medications. Uses generic brands, whenever possible and provides labeled medications to patients and staff, including listing any possible drug interactions.

    Records prescriptions issued in the medications area of the medical record and oversees all supporting pharmacy data processing and billing information of the patient.
  • Provides professional, courteous, accurate and timely information to requesting patients, medical staff, and clinic personnel immediately, if possible. Responses requiring written replies will be completed and submitted within (2) business days upon request, unless referred to alternate sources.
