Overview

Supplemental Instructor (SI) will audit College Physics I (Physics 1301) for the Fall 2025 semester and hold tutoring/study sessions to discuss key concepts and provide additional support to enrolled undergraduates. The SI will build relationships with students taking the course and help increase student pass rates and success in the STEM program. The SI will provide subject-specific academic tutoring, as well as general tutoring and skill-building workshops for assigned students to guide success in college and their career.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Audit the assigned course through the semester.
  • Hold group study sessions open to all students in the course.
  • Offer individual tutoring sessions at the request of a student.
  • Work with the course instructor to align class materials with study sessions.
  • Create supplemental study materials for exams/quizzes.
Qualifications
  • Must have completed PHYS 1301 and 1302 or PHYS 2325 and 2326.
  • Must have earned an 80 or better in the courses.
Preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to clearly explain challenging concepts, provide instructions, and deliver feedback.
  • Ability to motivate and encourage students to improve their academic performance using effective goal setting strategies.
  • Upperclassman (Junior or Senior) or Graduate student enrolled in Math, Computer Science, Chemistry, Biology or Geology.
About the Program and Conditions

This position is part of the Title III STEM Lobotrack to Success (LTS) Supplemental Instructor Program. The purpose is to support undergraduate STEM students in challenging courses offered within the College of Agriculture, Life and Physical Sciences (ALPS). SIs will be recruited from high-achieving senior-level students or graduate students. For questions, contact Amanda Piper (amanda.piper).
