Overview
The College of Education at Sul Ross State University is seeking qualified part-time adjunct instructors to teach dual credit courses in the Teacher Academy Pathway. This pathway provides high school students with an early introduction to knowledge, dispositions, and skills for becoming an effective educator. The adjunct instructor serves as both subject-matter expert and practitioner-model, demonstrating the relevance and rigor of educator preparation for students in the region served by SRSU.
PrimaryResponsibilities
Summary The adjunct instructor teaches dual credit courses in the Teacher Academy, Dual Credit Pathway, aligning with SRSU syllabi and learning outcomes. Course materials are contextualized for high school students using local district and community examples. The instructor models effective instructional practices aligned with Texas educator standards and maintains accurate records of student attendance, grades, and participation. Grades and required documentation are submitted in accordance with SRSU and partnering ISD deadlines.
This is a face-to-face teaching role.
Duties The following responsibilities are illustrative and not necessarily exhaustive:
- Deliver assigned dual credit course(s) in alignment with SRSU syllabi and learning outcomes.
- Contextualize course content for high school students using local district and community examples.
- Model effective instructional practices consistent with Texas educator standards.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of student attendance, grades, and participation.
- Submit grades and required documentation by specified deadlines.
- Teach face-to-face instruction.
Field and Clinical Coordination
- Facilitate structured classroom observations in PK–12 settings when applicable.
- Coordinate with host school site supervisors to support students during embedded field experiences.
- Document field experience hours and activities in accordance with TAC requirements, where applicable.
Professional and Institutional Responsibilities
- Participates in required adjunct orientation.
- Maintains communication with the dual credit coordinator and Teacher Education Program leadership.
- Adheres to SRSU academic policies, the dual credit partnership agreement, and applicable TAC provisions governing educator preparation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervision Received:
Reports to the Teacher Education Program Coordinator for course content and delivery.
Working Conditions Part-time, per-course appointment. Hours vary by number of courses and partnering ISD calendar. Travel to high school campus sites is required. Some coordination may occur outside standard school hours. This is not a benefits-eligible position. Position is security sensitive. Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others.
QualificationsRequired:
- Master’s degree in Education, a related field, or a content area aligned to the assigned course(s).
- Active and valid Texas educator certification (teaching or professional certificate in good standing).
- Minimum of three (3) years of creditable PK–12 teaching experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with high school students.
- Willingness to facilitate or coordinate field observations in PK–12 classrooms.
Preferred:
- A terminal degree in Education or a related field.
- Experience teaching in a dual credit or early college high school context.
- Familiarity with the Texas Administrative Code governing educator preparation (TAC Chapter 228 and related chapters).
- Experience as an instructional coach, mentor teacher, or campus/district leader.
- Bilingual or ESL certification, or demonstrated experience working with emergent bilingual/English Learner (EB/EL) students.
- Blackboard experience.
