- Well-spoken and sensitive to role boundaries.
- One-year student guidance/advising experience.
- Bilingual (English / Spanish).
Advise prospective, new, and returning students. The Retention Specialist/Advisor will assist academic departments with academic planning, advisement interpretation, and implementation of university policies and procedures in the area of student retention. The role includes advising students on retention services and issues concerning academics offered by the University, including retention through graduation. The advisor is responsible for a specific population specialty with focused attention to detail and information sensitivity.
ScopeStudent services advising; working with the Culture of Care grant and advising students to complete related goals and objectives proposed in the Title V:
Culture of Care grant application.
- Advise current students about concerns/issues that might affect completing academic degree requirements.
- Maintain students’ files (Banner and associated tools) and facilitate updates and changes as necessary.
- Assist with retention outreach events and presentations.
- Refer students with academic discrepancies to proper officials.
- Coordinate communications to students regarding retention activities, community resources, and career readiness resources.
- Assist with returning students and maintain monthly appointments with the Director of Student Services.
- Manage population administration and work extended hours occasionally.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Office conditions; exempt from overtime provisions. Position is Security Sensitive. A willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed may be required.
