Retention Specialist (Student Support Services)

The Retention Specialist/Advisor will advise prospective, new, and returning students; assist academic departments with student retention planning and the implementation of university policies; provide information on retention services and academic requirements; and coordinate outreach and professional development activities.

• Advise current students about concerns/issues that may impact completion of academic degree requirements.
• Maintain and update student files in Banner and related tools.
• Facilitate updates and changes as necessary.
• Assist with retention outreach events and presentations.
• Refer students with academic discrepancies to appropriate officials.
• Coordinate communications regarding retention-related activities, community resources, and career readiness resources.
• Assist with returning students.
• Maintain monthly appointments with the Director of Student Services.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s Degree; or a combination of education and experience.
• Familiarity with higher education processes.
• Exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to effectively utilize computer applications and learn new software; experience working with diverse populations, college students, and faculty.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Well‑spoken and sensitive to the boundaries of the job description.

• Experience in student retention or advising.
• Experience working with the Culture of Care grant and related programs.
• Knowledge of student services advising and career readiness resources.
