Required Qualifications- Must be pursuing a
B.Sc. in a natural resource-related program - Ability to use a personal computer for basic reporting, documentation, and developing presentations
- Strong work ethic
- Organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Willingness to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to present findings at Sul Ross State University and at least one wildlife-related conference
- GPA of 2.5 or higher
- Dedication of up to 19 hours per week to the research project
Institutional
Primary ResponsibilitiesAssist graduate students with research projects in the field and/or laboratory. Major focuses include Big Game, Conservation Biology, Game Birds, and Habitat. Tasks will depend on the specific project and may include:
- Deploying and monitoring field equipment (e.g., nets, traps, fences, meters, cameras, recording devices, arrays)
- Handling captured wildlife
- Conducting habitat management activities related to research
- Performing wildlife, vegetative, soil, and hydrological surveys
- Working in the Department greenhouse
- Collecting, compiling, organizing, inventorying, and analyzing collections, photos, and data
- Keeping track of time worked and reporting it monthly
- Maintaining equipment and vehicles in good condition
- Completing other duties as assigned
Work schedule:
2025-26 SRSU Academic Calendar (September 1 – May 31). Locations include SRSU campus and field‑research sites. Field research may involve remote and harsh environmental conditions with potential hazards.
