Salary: $2500 scholarship in two payments by Welch Foundation Department Grant.
Requirements- Students must be accepted on the Undergraduate Research Scholarship. They also must complete CHEM 1311 or CHEM 1312. General Chemistry courses are required to perform chemistry research projects.
- Undergraduate students majoring in natural or physical sciences who are maintaining a minimum 2.0 GPA and pursuing a career in chemistry research.
- Synthesize and characterize new transition metal oxides or fluorides as new optical materials using hydrothermal autoclaves, conventional solid-state methods, and various spectroscopic instruments (Powder XRD, IR, UV-visible DRS, TGA & DSC, EDX).
- Determine structures of newly synthesized oxides or fluorides by single crystal diffractometry and refine and visualize the structures.
- Maintain safety rules of the chemistry laboratory.
- Participate in training on chemistry lab equipment operation.
