Senior Project Accountant

Overview

Our client is a fast-growing mechanical and plumbing subcontractor specializing in HVAC, ductwork, sheet metal, plumbing, and general contracting based in Altadena, CA. We are seeking a Senior Project Accountant to own construction finance from billing to job costing to compliance.

• Manage the full billing cycle including AIA billing, schedule of values, and draw requests
• Prepare and maintain work-in-progress (WIP) reports and job cost reports
• Post proper journal entries tied to billing and project activity
• Oversee accounts receivable and actively manage collections
• Supervise one AP direct report and review payables workflow
• Prepare and monitor cash flow forecasts; critical given weekly payroll obligations
• Naviagte 4–5 client platforms and daily portals depending on project requirements
• Ensure compliance with prevailing wage, certified payroll, and government contract requirements
• Coordinate with project managers to ensure job cost data aligns with field activity

• 3+ years of project accounting experience in construction or real estate development
• Strong understanding of job costing, WIP reporting, and AIA billing forms
• Experience with Quick Books Enterprise (required)
• Familiarity with GCP and daily client portals
• Prevailing wage and public sector compliance experience strongly preferred
• Mechanical or plumbing subcontractor background is a plus
• This is a project accounting role, not general accounting, and not tax/CPA work
