Description
Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine is seeking applications for a full-time tenure track position at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor level in the Department of Biomedical and Craniofacial Sciences. This position is in behavioral sciences as pertains to clinical dentistry. This includes didactic instruction as well as support of clinical training and assessment in the application of fundamental principles of behavioral sciences to patient care including interpersonal skills and behavioral/psychological approaches to management of dental patients, communication skills, anxiety, and pain control, etc.
Responsibilities include teaching in the predoctoral and postdoctoral programs, as well as independent research and service to the University. Working in collaboration with other faculty, both in research and in teaching, is encouraged.

QualificationsThis position requires a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a behavioral science field such as psychology, psychiatry, communication studies, or social work and has expertise in behavioral health or health sciences education. Experience integrating behavioral health principles into patient care is desirable. Alternatively, a D.M.D., D.D.S. or equivalent degree with strong foundational training and interest in behavioral sciences would be considered (in which case applicants must be licensed to practice dentistry in the state of Illinois, or be able to meet the requirements for Illinois licensure).
Previous teaching experience and/or a record of research accomplishments through publication and external funding are desirable. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
