Position: SUBSTITUTE PARAPROFESSIONAL

Summary
The Alton School District is seeking a dedicated and flexible individual to serve as a Substitute Paraprofessional. The ideal candidate will support classroom teachers in delivering educational programs and assisting students with diverse needs. This role is vital in ensuring a smooth and effective learning environment during the absence of regular staff.

Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers in implementing instructional plans and adapting materials for diverse learners.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students, fostering an inclusive and supportive atmosphere.
  • Supervise students during classroom activities, lunch, recess, and other school-related events.
  • Assist with classroom management and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Help prepare instructional materials and resources for lessons.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers regarding student behavior and academic performance.
  • Support students with special needs, including those with physical, emotional, or learning disabilities.
  • Perform clerical duties as needed, including filing, copying, and organizing materials.
  • Follow all school policies and procedures, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all students.
  • Attend training sessions and staff meetings as required.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent; short-term paraprofessional license or greater through the State of Illinois.
  • Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, students, and parents.
  • Patience, flexibility, and a genuine interest in supporting student learning and development.
  • Ability to follow directions and adapt to various classroom environments and teaching styles.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with educational technology.
  • Must pass background checks and meet any state or district requirements for substitute staff.
  • Availability to work on short notice and flexibility in scheduling.
