Aircraft Upholstery TechnicianThis hourly, non-exempt full-time position requires a thorough understanding of aircraft interiors, including advanced knowledge of upholstered items found in aircraft interiors. Primary functions include modifications, repair, refurbishment, and reinstallation of interior components. The ability to evaluate and adjust modifications is essential. Job duties will vary daily and are designated by the Upholstery Team Leader. Independent work may be required.
Responsibilities:- Perform major modifications to seats and related items as required.
- Possess familiarity with different seat styles typical to aircraft.
- Work independently on projects when required.
- Complete upholstery refurbishment of aircraft seats from start to finish, including inspection, disassembly, assembly, prep work, foam work, patterning, sewing, and installation of dress covers.
- Maintain and repair shop facilities, equipment, and tooling as needed.
- Ensure cleanliness of the shop and surroundings.
- Assist in training less-experienced employees to ensure proper job knowledge and performance.
- Diagnose seat problems both in and out of the aircraft and perform necessary corrective actions.
- Understand FAA flammability requirements for all materials used.
- Complete all required paperwork per work order instructions.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3–5 years of experience in aircraft upholstery.
- Knowledge of materials and foams used in aviation.
- Experience with repairs and techniques on various seat styles.
- 1–2 years of experience with heavy modifications preferred.
- Self-motivated with the ability to maintain a rapid pace.
- Capable of processing work with minimal supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.
- Follow all safety and company rules during duties.
- Maintain customer-oriented work habits.
- Train lesser-experienced employees as needed.
