Position: SUBSTITUTE NURSE

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to serve as a Substitute Nurse at the Alton School District - Admin Center. The ideal candidate will provide temporary nursing services to ensure the health and safety of students and staff during the absence of the regular school nurse. This role requires strong clinical skills, the ability to respond to emergencies, and a commitment to fostering a positive and supportive environment for students.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide nursing care to students and staff in accordance with established protocols and policies.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring proper documentation and compliance with health regulations.
  • Assess and manage student health concerns, including injuries and illnesses, while providing appropriate first aid.
  • Maintain accurate health records and documentation for all students treated during the substitute period.
  • Collaborate with school staff, parents, and healthcare providers to address student health needs.
  • Participate in health screenings and immunization programs as needed.
  • Educate students and staff on health-related topics, promoting wellness and healthy behaviors.
  • Respond to emergency situations, providing immediate care and coordinating with emergency services as necessary.
  • Uphold confidentiality and privacy standards in accordance with HIPAA regulations and district policies.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions to stay informed about school health policies and practices.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid nursing license (RN) in the state of Illinois.
  • Previous experience in a school setting or pediatric nursing preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in high‑pressure situations.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations, as well as first aid and CPR certification.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for maintaining accurate health records.
  • Flexibility to work on short notice and adapt to varying schedules as needed.
  • Commitment to promoting a positive and supportive school environment for all students.
