Senior Cost Accountant / Cost Accounting Manager

$80,000 - $110,000 + Bonus
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Senior Cost Accountant / Cost Accounting Manager to join their accounting team and play a key role in managing cost accounting activities across multiple manufacturing locations and entities.
This position will oversee manufacturing cost analysis, inventory valuation, standard costing, variance analysis, and financial reporting while partnering closely with Operations, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Finance. The ideal candidate will have strong manufacturing cost accounting experience and the ability to translate financial data into meaningful business recommendations.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced cost accountant who is looking to take on greater leadership responsibility while remaining highly involved in the accounting and analytical functions of the business.
OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE:
- Manage cost accounting and inventory processes across multiple manufacturing locations
- Analyze material, labor, overhead, scrap, and landed costs
- Maintain standard costs and investigate cost variances
- Oversee inventory transactions, adjustments, shrinkage, scrap, and obsolescence
- Partner with Engineering and Production on BOM accuracy and product costing
- Prepare journal entries and monthly balance sheet reconciliations
- Support a fast-paced, three-day month-end close and financial reporting
- Prepare cost reports and communicate key trends and variances to leadership
- Develop cost models, variance analyses, and activity-based costing models
- Support budgeting, forecasting, audits, and special projects
- Lead, mentor, and develop a small team of cost accountants
- Drive continuous improvement in costing, inventory, and internal controls
- Partner with Finance, Operations, Manufacturing, and Engineering to improve business performance
- Develop costing processes for new products and co-manufactured items
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field
- 5+ years of accounting experience within a manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting and inventory accounting
- Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems
- Advanced or strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Experience with standard costing, variance analysis, inventory, and manufacturing financials
