The Distribution Lines Designer is responsible for the designed construction, relocation, and new business work for the Distribution function of the Company. The Distribution Designer leverages customer service, software use, and learned expertise in design standards and regulatory requirements. This individual acts as a regular point of contact for internal and external customers through the lifetime of various projects and tasks.

This position reports onsite at the Altoona Service Center in Altoona, PA.
Responsibilities- Demonstrate and direct a solid commitment to all aspects of safety.
- Utilize First Energy construction standards and engineering practices to complete single- and 3‑phase overhead and underground designs to serve residential, commercial, and industrial requests.
- Support job progress through customer contacts, field work, job packages, and job closeout functions including material review and paperwork verification.
- Facilitate billing functions for line extension and applicable relocation work, including billing recommendations in non‑routine scenarios.
- Facilitate completion of outage management system (OMS) follow‑up requests, inspection and maintenance repairs, streetlight installation and replacement, claims, Transmission priority repairs, aerial patrol findings, and Job & Contracting (J&C) projects.
- Acquire permits related to railroad, Department of Transportation, and municipality road right-of-way.
- Collaborate with customers to secure and document easements for line extensions and highway relocation work.
- Update and maintain compliant records to support technical reports, metrics, and information systems.
- Travel to various off‑site locations as required, including First Energy offices, training facilities, and customer sites.
- Provide ongoing assistance during emergencies and storm‑related activities.
- Associate degree in a technical discipline is required.
- Or high school diploma or equivalent and minimum 2‑6 years of related work experience is required. Related work experience includes utility design and knowledge of design practices, procedures, and methods used in construction.
- Pass the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Technician Occupations Selection System (TECH) employment test.
- Strong communication ability to guide decision‑making or consensus, negotiate acceptable outcomes, and diffuse challenging situations.
- Willing to seek guidance and advice to fill gaps in understanding.
- Self‑motivated and able to manage shifting priorities.
- Able to interpret complex written and visual information, such as procedures, manuals, drawings, and schematics.
- Able to gain working familiarity with standards, codes, regulations, electrical systems, construction methods, equipment, and safety requirements, including practical applications.
