Hours: Daylight hours, Flexible for 4 10s or 5 8s

Location: Station Medical Center, UPMC Altoona

Position Specifics: Hospital Outpatient Clinic
- Reviewing body systems, identifying problem areas, ordering further testing and referring out to specialists. Can work closely with the Anesthesia team at the hospital, a very engaged group. Close-knit, unique team of experienced RNs, and great opportunity for the autonomy to structure schedule the way you like, with support of great team members.

Department Specifics: The Surgical Pretesting Unit is located in the Station Medical Center Suite E-103. The Unit consists of 4 patient evaluation rooms, 2 treatment rooms, and a 7-phone call center. A waiting area is provided for patients, their families, and significant others. Pre-Testing care consists of the consideration of information from multiple sources that may include the patient’s medical records, phone interview, and physical examination.

The assessments made in the process of evaluation may be used to educate the patient, organize resources for perioperative care, and formulate plans for intraoperative care, postoperative recovery, and perioperative pain management. Findings from medical tests and evaluations are used to increase patient safety and satisfaction by streamlining the peri-operative process. Phone surveys and pre-anesthesia appointments are made for patients scheduled for procedures and surgery at UPMC Altoona Hospital and Surgery Center.

The Staff or Senior Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner and a member of the care delivery team. The APP is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care. The APP has responsibility, authority, and accountability for the provision of care through supervision by and collaboration with a physician. The APP manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication, and collaboration with all team members.

The role of the APP encompasses the beginnings of leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision. The APP establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients, and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care.
