PRN Inpatient Registered Nurse RN

Job Summary

Registered Nurse (RN) – Inpatient Unit delivers patient-centered nursing care to post-surgical and medical-surgical patients. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, coordinating care, promoting recovery, ensuring safety and collaborating with the healthcare team to achieve optimal outcomes. The RN educates patients and families on post‑operative care, coordinates discharge planning and contributes to quality improvement initiatives within the unit.

• 2 FTE – 8 hours per week
• Variable shifts:
  Day, PM, Night, weekend, and holiday (based on staffing and patient care needs)

• Advocate for patients’ rights, preferences and needs, ensuring high-quality, compassionate care tailored to individual circumstances.
• Project a professional demeanor and appearance while maintaining confidentiality.
• Assess patient health problems and needs to develop, implement and evaluate care in collaboration with the healthcare team.
• Provide direct patient care, administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Educate patients and families on health conditions, medications, treatment care and post‑surgical care including discharge instructions.
• Operate and monitor medical equipment relevant to patient care.
• Ensure infection control protocols and safety standards are followed.
• Record care information promptly, concisely and accurately.
• Respond to emergency situations with appropriate interventions.
• Report and document any unusual events, safety concerns or incidents in accordance with policies.
• Participate in the department’s on‑call rotation and respond promptly to call‑ins to ensure continuous patient care.
• Collaborate with other disciplines to determine plan of care and create a discharge plan.
• Perform and document point‑of‑care testing in accordance with protocols, ensuring accuracy and timely communication of results.
• Ensure compliance with Universal Protocol by initiating a pre‑procedural “Time Out” to prevent wrong‑site, wrong‑procedure and wrong‑patient errors.
• Perform procedures accurately, completely and safely according to policy, procedure and physician orders.
• Conduct thorough and accurate patient hand‑offs to ensure continuity and safety between shifts and providers.
• Participate in RN professional development, including education, preceptor and charge responsibilities.
• Respond promptly to departmental call‑ins and operational needs to maintain continuous coverage.
• May be cross‑trained and assigned to other nursing departments with responsibility for carrying out the essential functions of the assigned role.
• Use the organization’s secure messaging platform in accordance with departmental protocols.

• Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited nursing program (required)
• Current RN licensure in the State of Wisconsin
• BLS certification required upon hire.
• Must obtain ACLS and PALS certification within six months of hire.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in a hospital medical/surgical setting preferred.
• Previous experience in recovery room, ambulatory care, critical care or general nursing experience preferred.
• Must possess a cell phone that interfaces with the organization’s secure messaging system.
