Overview
We are seeking a Network Engineer 2 to join our Security and Electronic Systems (SES) business unit. The role supports the US Air Force Education and Training Center and involves designing, engineering, integrating, operating, and maintaining electronic security services and related network systems.
Responsibilities – Technical- Survey reports and measurement results to senior personnel and management.
- Conduct surveys, inspections, and site tours as required.
- Troubleshoot and debug complex network problems and recommend operational efficiency improvements.
- Document procedures, troubleshooting network operations.
- Employ an understanding of network administration to support business operations.
- Interpreting and analyzing results versus established benchmarks and goals.
- Research available technologies and products as needed.
- Install, configure, and maintain network services, equipment, and devices.
- Work closely with field engineers to simulate expected system‑level performance and provide quick feedback on potential improvements.
- Assist senior network engineers to identify and resolve network security issues.
- Develop network designs for each SLA classification.
- Prepare design documents for small projects and support large programs (narrative design documents, systems designs, subsystem designs, CAD, panels, layouts, wiring, hardware, communications).
- Perform QA/QC and technical reviews of designs.
- Comment on resolution testing, commissioning review, test plans, safety, risk, manufacturability.
- Author test plans, supervise testing activities, create commissioning procedures, prepare test reports.
- Commission deployed systems, develop test fixtures and simulation devices, generate standard PITCO plans and procedures.
- Design and perform complete system integration tests.
- Perform preventative maintenance (software, hardware, firmware upgrades, security updates, performance upgrades).
- Originating and submitting maintenance plans and rollback plans.
- Serve as backup for team members during paid time off.
- Perform hardware and software upgrades and replacements on existing systems.
- Provide 24/7 on‑call support.
- Assist team members in identifying and resolving basic to moderate network/telecom issues.
- Work with project managers to meet expectations for network tasks.
- Complete project tasks and assignments to meet project deadlines.
- Contribute to team and closely related teams through quality and accuracy of output.
- Prepare cost estimates and supporting documents for projects.
- Assist senior engineers in preparing bids and proposals, cost estimates, and change‑order pricing.
- Develop and adapt documents, procedures, and formal processes for the Network Engineering team.
- Collaborate with other disciplines to define work interfaces.
- U.S. Citizenship and eligibility to access classified information; must obtain a DoD Secret Clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 2+ years of progressive experience in network engineering.
- Understanding of ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) concepts.
- Understanding of security issues and implications for network solutions.
- Knowledge of network concepts, technologies, tools, philosophies, and ability to design an organization’s network infrastructure and services.
- Knowledge of system development methodology, project management, system architecture, and analytical/problem‑solving skills.
- Strong oral, technical writing, and presentation skills.
- Ability to build productive relationships with team members, clients, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to establish working relationships with others outside area of expertise.
- Ability to balance high quality standards with schedule pressures in a demanding environment.
- Resourceful, self‑starter, flexible, proactive, solution‑oriented, and customer‑oriented.
