Position: SUPERVISORY AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL SPECIALIST (TERMINAL) with Security Clearance
Duties The primary purpose of this position is:
Provides first level and watch supervisory Air Traffic Control duties for Altus AFB Control Tower operations. Plans, directs, organizes and exercises control over non-supervisory employees and functions as senior controller to issue control instructions to aircraft operating under visual and instrument flight rules. The facility operates on a rotational schedule 18 to 24 hours per day, five to seven days per week.

Traffic demands are medium. The control tower handles an average of 22-30 aircraft operations per hour during the day and evening shifts. DUTIES:
* Plans, organizes and directs the activities of tower air traffic control operators ensuring that the Air Traffic Control flight complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.
* Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
* Identifies employee developmental needs and provides or arranges for on-the-job training to maintain and improve job performance.
* Represents the flight with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.
* Performs regular and recurring non-supervisory responsibilities as Air Traffic Control Specialist directing aircraft and vehicle movement. Issues control instructions to provide the safe, orderly and expeditious movement of aircraft taxiing, departing, and approaching to land, and landing.
* Emergency Actions:
Implements FAA, USAF, MAJCOM, installation and local guidance in the event of emergency situations that decrease the control capability of the tower or aircraft; ensures immediate and continued safety of aircraft under facility control; real word or exercise.

* Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period.
* Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.
* This position is centrally managed in Operations career field / gaining unit may pay for PCS * "This is a Supervisory Position." A 1-year supervisory probationary period is required if applicant selected has not previously met this requirement
* Must possess current and valid FAA/ATC specialist certification and maintain same
* Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance
* May be required to perform temporary duty away from assigned facility and may be required to fly via military or commercial aircraft.
* This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions
* Ability to meet and maintain on a continuing basis, the physical and mental qualification standards established by OPM, FAA, and USAF

* This position may be entitled to 5% premium pay as authorized by 5

* This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
* May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty, i.e., Saturdays, Sundays, Holidays, etc. Maybe required to work rotating shifts and overtime. May be required to respond to short notice recall to support unscheduled emergency air traffic and/or contingencies/exercises to supplement the mission.
* The duties of this position meets all requirements as a category 4 designation and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the parent Federal Agency or office to function effectively. This position must be removed from the Ready Reserve and CAN NOT become a member of the Ready Reserve. (IAW: DoDD 1200.7, "Screening the Ready Reserve").
