Part-Time Instructor Pool

Position located in the Continuing Education Workforce Development (CEWD) department for part‑time assignments during the academic year. Applications are considered throughout the academic year and reviewed based on departmental needs. If selected, applicants will be contacted by phone or email for an interview.

Terms of Employment

Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include working days, evenings and/or weekends.

Requires provision of official transcripts, licenses and/or certifications within (30) days of hire.

Applicants with academic credentials from non‑U.S. accredited institutions must have their coursework evaluated in terms of U.S. “equivalency.” All international credential evaluations must be conducted by one of the companies affiliated with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES®) in order to be considered for a faculty position. Applicants bear the responsibility for requesting, paying associated fees, and obtaining an original transcript evaluation for submission to the Office of Human Resources.

Instructor Responsibilities
  • Teach courses within the Dental Assistant Program department.
  • Prepare and provide lecture, laboratory, and clinical instruction according to the required dental assistant curriculum established by Alvin College and approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
  • Follow current course outlines, objectives, evaluation mechanisms, and safety procedures within the classroom and laboratory.
  • Instruct and supervise a diverse population of students at various times and locations.
  • Commit to student engagement, success, and instructional excellence.
  • Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Prepare and utilize a course syllabus and assessments following institutional guidelines.
  • Maintain current knowledge of teaching methodologies and use varied instructional delivery methods, media, and resources.
  • Assist in recruitment and retention of students.
  • Advise students in academic matters or refer them to appropriate resources.
  • Assess student performance and keep them informed of progress promptly.
  • Engage students through office hours and electronic communication.
  • Use technology to facilitate learning, access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate with others.
  • Assist in development, distribution, and collection of assessments for courses and program objectives.
  • Build positive relationships with students, colleagues, college administration, and community.
  • Submit timely college reports and forms to appropriate divisions.
  • Recommend curriculum, instruction, and operational improvements to Instructional Dean, Department Chair, and college committees.
  • Engage in professional development activities for lifelong learning.
  • Adhere to Alvin College policies and procedures.
  • Attend institutional meetings as required.
Work Environment

Incumbent works primarily in a classroom environment using a computer, telephone, and other office equipment. Noise level typical of a classroom; frequent interruptions common.

Physical Demands

Require sitting, talking, hearing; repetitive hand motion; handling or feeling; standing, walking, reaching, bending, or lifting up to 20 pounds.

Required Qualifications
  • High‑school diploma and an active license from the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners in good standing.
  • At least one year of non‑teaching related work experience in the dental field.
  • College certificate or associate degree in dental field from an accredited post‑secondary institution.
  • Minimum one year teaching experience in technical training or higher education.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Basic computer proficiency using Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Basic proficiency with online tools such as Blackboard.
  • Familiarity with interactive teaching methods and instruction via the Internet.
  • Self‑motivated with ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Flexible work hours (days, nights, weekends) up to 19 hours per week; availability may be subject to program needs.
  • Understanding that minimum hours are not guaranteed and classes may be cancelled or rescheduled with minimal notice due to student need, enrollment or program needs.
