Tutor III – part‑time position located in the Learning Commons Department. Applications are considered and reviewed based on departmental needs. When a candidate is selected they will be contacted by phone or email for an interview.
Terms of Employment
Requires a flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include working days, evenings and/or weekends. May require travel to our main campus in Alvin and/or to various off‑site locations, including local high schools in Alvin, Danbury, Manvel, Pearland and to Texas Department of Criminal Justice facilities in Richmond, Rosharon or Lake Jackson. Fingerprinting is a requirement for the local ISD's per Texas Education Agency.
Alvin College will reimburse the estimated cost of $50, if applicable.
Requires the provision of official transcripts and/or certifications within 30 days of hire.
Applicants with academic credentials from non‑U.S. accredited institutions must have their coursework evaluated in terms of U.S. equivalency by one of the companies affiliated with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES) to be considered for a faculty position. Applicants bear the responsibility of requesting, paying associated fees, and obtaining an original transcript evaluation for submission to the Office of Human Resources.

Responsibilities- Tutor diverse student populations in various subject areas
- Answer academic questions, providing examples relating to the subject
- Provide analytic and diagnostic services to increase student success
- Ensure students individual learning needs are met
- Refer students to necessary campus support services
- Evaluate and recommend tutoring materials
- Facilitate review sessions, workshops and trainings
The incumbent typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level is typical of that of an office. Incumbent may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day.
Physical DemandsThe employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 20 pounds.
Qualifications- Associate's degree or higher
- At least 6 credit hours in area of tutoring assignment
- B+ or higher in course to tutor
- Overall GPA of 2.5 or better
- Mastery of course(s) being tutored
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Capable of working with both faculty and students
- Ability to be empathetic to students with difficulties
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Possess excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Possess good interpersonal skills to perform successfully in a multicultural environment
- Ability to be well organized, task-oriented and flexible
- Ability to work flexible hours to include evenings and weekends at various locations
- At least one (1) year of tutoring, teaching or instructional experience
- Bilingual English/Spanish
