Part-Time Instructor Pool

Hourly rate will be determined based on market rate, experience and discipline. This is a Part-Time Instructor Pool in our Continuing Education Workforce Development (CEWD) department for available assignments during the academic year.

Applications are considered throughout the academic year and reviewed based on departmental needs. Should a review of your application result in the intent to pursue your candidacy, you will be contacted by phone or email for an interview.

Terms of employment requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include working days, evenings and/or weekends. Requires the provision of official transcripts and/or certifications within (30) days of hire. Applicants with academic credentials from non-U.S. accredited institutions are required to have their coursework evaluated in terms of U.S. "equivalency." All international credential evaluations must be conducted by one of the companies affiliated with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc.

(NACES®) in order to be considered for a faculty position. Applicants bear the responsibility of requesting, paying associated fees, and obtaining an original transcript evaluation for submission to the Office of Human Resources.

Summary

The instructor will teach a variety of Industrial Program courses and provide quality instruction in a safe environment to students in accordance with Alvin College policies and procedures. Incumbent is required to follow the current course outlines, objectives, evaluate student competencies and maintain safety procedures within the classroom and in the field (lab). The instructor constantly evaluates their effectiveness in the classroom and by helping students obtain course learning outcomes and the impact that they have on student retention.

The location of course/program and days and times of delivery may vary based on client/college needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Instruct industry program-related courses and labs which align with the incumbent's professional experience and industry recognized certifications/licenses.
  • Provides instruction in Industrial Programs ensuring student achievement of course learning outcomes (CLOs), credentials, and certifications.
  • Evaluates student progress, provides feedback, and implements strategies to maximize student success in the classroom and/or lab setting.
  • Develops, maintains, and continuously improves curriculum and instructional materials for assigned programs, including traditional, hybrid, and online formats.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and industry regulations in both classroom and field instruction (lab).
  • Maintains accurate records and documentation as required by institutional, state, and federal regulators.
  • Operates and trains students on regulated industrial equipment while ensuring proper safety and maintenance practices.
  • Conducts routine equipment inspections, coordinates necessary repairs, and reports maintenance issues in a timely manner.
  • Adheres to Alvin College policies, procedures, and instructional standards.
  • Participates in institutional meetings, and program-related activities as required.
  • Assist in new program development by providing constructive input drawing from professional experience and industry trends.
  • Conduct contract training that may or may not be linked to grants.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Environment

The incumbent will work in a dynamic and diverse environment, with a significant portion of time spent in the field providing hands-on instruction and engaging in outreach activities, limiting time spent in a traditional office setting. The work environment may resemble that of a construction site or warehouse, with elevated noise levels and potential exposure to safety hazards as outlined in OSHA CFR  and OSHA CFR .
