Part-Time Cybersecurity Instructor

This is a Part-Time Faculty Pool for available assignments during the academic year. The Cybersecurity instructor must have hands-on experience in cybersecurity and a passion for educating the next generation of professionals. Expertise should include secure programming, ethical hacking, penetration testing, digital forensics, cloud security, and threat intelligence. A commitment to student success, innovative teaching methods and staying current with industry trends is essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach and supervise students using approved curriculum, syllabi, assessments, and instructional standards.
  • Utilize effective teaching methods, technology, and educational resources to support student learning.
  • Assess student performance, provide timely feedback, and maintain accurate instructional records.
  • Advise and support students regarding academic progress and connect them with appropriate College resources.
  • Support student recruitment, retention, engagement, and overall success.
  • Participate in curriculum development, program assessment, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain positive and professional relationships with students, colleagues, administration, and the community.
  • Complete required reports, forms, meetings, and institutional responsibilities in a timely manner.
  • Participate in professional development and maintain current knowledge of effective instructional practices.
  • Adhere to Alvin College policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher in cybersecurity, computer science, computer information systems, computer information technology, networking, computer engineering, or computer-based information systems or industry certifications
  • Minimum of three years of non-teaching work experience in an industry specifically related to:
  • Security Operations (SOC)
  • Incident Response / Digital Forensics
  • Network Security / Cloud Security
  • Risk Management / Compliance
  • Penetration Testing / Ethical Hacking

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in cybersecurity, computer information systems, computer information technology, computer engineering, computer-based information systems or related field
  • Prior teaching experience at a community college or university
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas)
  • Certificates in:
    • Offensive Security: OSCP, OSCE, OSWP
    • CompTIA:
      Security+, CySA+, Pen Test+, CASP+
    • ISC2: CISSP, CCSP, SSCP
    • GIAC: GSEC, GPEN, GCIH, GCFA
    • Cisco: CCNA Security, CCNP Security, Cyber Ops
    • EC-Council: CEH, ECSA, CHFI
    • Cloud Security: CCSK, CCSP, AWS/Azure Security
    • Other: CISM, CRISC, Pentest+, eJPT
  • Prior online teaching experience and online/distance education
  • Bilingual – English/Spanish

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Operating Systems:
    Windows Server, Linux (Kali, Ubuntu), macOS
  • Networking: TCP/IP, Firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, SD-WAN
  • Security Tools:
    Wireshark, Metasploit, Burp Suite, Nessus, Nmap, Splunk
  • Cloud & Virtualization: AWS/Azure Security, VMware, Docker, Kubernetes
  • Scripting & Automation:
    Python, Power Shell, Bash
  • Emerging Trends: AI in Cybersecurity, Zero Trust Architecture, IoT Security
  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, as well as intermediate computer skills.
  • Must be familiar with interactive teaching methods and instruction via the Internet.
  • Working knowledge of Blackboard course management system.
