Part-Time Faculty Pool

This is a Part-Time Faculty Pool for available assignments during the academic year. Applications are considered throughout the academic year and reviewed based on departmental needs.

• Teach networking courses and hands-on labs in areas such as routing, switching, network security, virtualization, and cloud technologies.
• Develop and maintain curriculum, course materials, labs, and assessments aligned with College requirements and current industry standards.
• Maintain and configure networking lab equipment, software, and virtual environments to support instruction.
• Assess student performance, provide timely feedback, and maintain required academic records.
• Advise and mentor students regarding academic progress, career opportunities, and industry certification pathways.
• Utilize instructional technologies and learning management systems to support face-to-face, hybrid, and online learning.
• Participate in curriculum development, program assessment, accreditation, recruitment, and continuous improvement activities.
• Maintain current knowledge of networking technologies, industry certifications, and effective teaching practices.
• Participate in departmental and institutional meetings and professional development activities.
• Adhere to Alvin College policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in Networking, Computer Science, IT, or related field OR equivalent industry certifications
• Three (3) years of hands-on experience in networking roles such as:
• Network Administration/Engineering
• Routing & Switching (Cisco, Juniper)
• Cloud Networking (AWS, Azure)
• Network Security (Firewalls, IDS/IPS)

Preferred Qualifications

• CERTIFICATIONS (Highly Desired)
• Cisco: CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, Dev Net Associate
• CompTIA:
  Network+, Security+, Cloud+
• Cloud: AWS Certified Advanced Networking, Microsoft Azure Network Engineer
• Security:
  Certified Network Defender (CND), Palo Alto PCNSA
• Virtualization: VMware VCP-NV, Nutanix NCP
• Emerging Tech: SDN, Kubernetes, IoT
• Bilingual – English/Spanish

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Networking Protocols: TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, VPNs, IPv6
• Hardware:
  Cisco IOS/NX-OS, Juniper JunOS, Aruba, Fortinet
• Cloud & SDN: AWS VPC, Azure Virtual Network, Cisco ACI, VMware NSX
• Security Tools:
  Wireshark, Nmap, SIEM (Splunk), Firewalls (Palo Alto, Cisco ASA)
• Automation:
  Python, Ansible, Terraform
• Virtualization: VMware ESXi, Hyper-V, Docker, Kubernetes
• Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, as well as intermediate computer skills.
• Must be familiar with interactive teaching methods and instruction via the Internet.
• Working knowledge of Blackboard course management system.
