Vinyl Applicator and Operations:
Job duties

• Vinyl Applicator/Operator is the person who takes a digital design and turns it into a finished, physical product.
• ???????
  
  This role is a blend of technical machine operation and meticulous hand-finishing.
• Running Plotters and Cutters:
  Loading rolls of vinyl into machines that use a tiny blade to cut out letters, shapes, or logos based on vector files.
• Large Format Printing:
  Operating industrial printers to print graphics onto adhesive-backed vinyl.
• Lamination:
  Running printed vinyl through a cold or hot laminator to add a protective UV or scratch-resistant layer.
• Measure Twice Cut Once
• Trimming:
  Using a straight edge and an X-Acto knife to trim bleed edges or cut signs to their final size.
• Inspection:
  Checking for "silvering" (tiny bubbles under lamination), misspellings, or color shifts that don't match the client's brand
• Surface Prep:
  Cleaning substrates (aluminum signs, plastic tags, or vehicle panels) with isopropyl alcohol to ensure there is no dust or grease that could cause peeling.
• Weeding:
  Using a small pointed tool (like a dental pick) to manually remove the "excess" vinyl from the backing, leaving only the intended design.
• Masking/Taping: Applying "transfer tape" over the weeded vinyl. This allows the design to be lifted off the wax paper backing and moved to its final destination without the letters falling out of alignment.
