Position: Certified Medication Aide (CMA) - Laurel Court (23545)

Shifts:

6:00 AM–2:00 PM and 2:00 PM–10:00 PM ($1.00 shift differential).

Job Summary

The overall purpose of the Certified Medication Aide position is to administer oral and topical medications to patients/residents, perform routine daily tasks to maintain patient health, comfort, and well-being under the direction of a physician and supervision of a licensed nurse, and in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations.

Qualifications
  • State certification as a Nursing Assistant mandatory.
  • State approved medication administration certification (where required).
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
Essential Functions
  • Administer medications as ordered by a physician under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with state and federal regulations and facility policy.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the “five rights” of medication administration.
  • Take and record vital signs of patients/residents as required.
  • Record the administration of medications and treatments appropriately.
  • Observe for and report any reactions or side effects of medications.
  • Administer PRN medications in accordance with regulations and facility policy.
  • Document reason for and response to PRN medications.
  • Dispense narcotics and account for them under the supervision of the licensed or charge nurse per facility policy.
  • Secure medication carts/rooms in compliance with regulations and policy.
  • Attend facility education in‑services.
  • Make observation rounds under the supervision of the licensed or charge nurse.
  • Supervise nursing assistants/orderlies as assigned.
  • Keep medication rooms, carts, and refrigerators clean and organized.
  • Remove expired medications for destruction per policy.
  • Attend Quality Assurance meetings as requested.
  • Function as a Team Leader/Role Model.
  • Review Cantex Continuing Care Networks Clinical Policies and Procedures for Abuse Prevention and enforce them.
  • Assure patient/resident safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
