STARTING RATE: $16.83 per hour

SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Environmental Health Administrative Specialist I, this position is responsible to perform routine clerical duties related to the operation of the Environmental Health Department. Work is performed within established department guidelines and policies but requires independent judgment and initiative. Employee must possess the ability to prioritize and schedule work, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

* Greets the public and determines their needs, assisting when possible.

* Answering the telephone and departmental emails and directing them to the proper person or taking the appropriate action.

* Answering inquires and requests from internal and external stakeholders to the greatest extent possible.

* Performs routine clerical duties such as filing, printing, mailing permits, cash reports, distributing mail, etc.

* Performs basic data entry for all programmatic areas within the department.

* Conducts inspection scheduling for various Environmental Health programs.

* Generates basic departmental reports and correspondence as requested.

* Verifies accuracy and corrects mistakes within various department programs and program reports.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or equivalent and two years of administrative experience. Must be able to type at a rate of 35 words per minute is preferred. Ability to complete clerical work involving a degree of independent judgement and requiring attention to accuracy.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

* Ability to operate computers for data entry and word processing.

* Ability to operate highly technical computer applications

* Strong verbal and written communication skill.

* Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
