Summary
The incumbent serves as a Transportation Assistant – Transportation Coordinator and acts as the primary contact to Veterans for transportation needs. The incumbent works with the Veteran Transportation Service (VTS) Supervisory Mobility Manager for transportation workload forecasting, scheduling design, procedure development, and quality improvement implementation—including modification of processes, evaluation, and the ongoing operational flow of the Veteran Transportation Services program.
QualificationsApplicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement – 07/23/2026. Time‑in‑Grade Requirements:
Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time‑in‑grade requirements by the closing date. For a GS‑6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS‑5. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF‑50 that shows your time‑in‑grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
If the most recent SF‑50 has an effective date within the past year it may not clearly demonstrate the one‑year time‑in‑grade required. In that case, provide an additional SF‑50 that demonstrates one year of time‑in‑grade. Applicants may also qualify based on education and/or experience:
- Specialized Experience (GS‑5):
At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation. Example experiences include preparing written instructions and correspondence; data entry into an automated system; scheduling appointments and admissions; collecting, compiling, and tracking data; ensuring compliance with regulations and procedures. - Education

At least four years beyond high school, with transcripts required. - Combination
: A mix of education and experience, where at least one full academic year beyond the second year (30 semester hours) is credited toward the specialized experience requirement. - Specialized Experience (GS‑6):
At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑05 in the Federal Service, directly related to transportation support duties such as coordinating connections/scheduling, documenting travel information, collecting and compiling data, analyzing data and generating reports, entering data into automated tracking databases, and planning and directing a program that provides support services.
- The coordination of transportation function is multi‑faceted and diverse.
- The three major areas of responsibility are: (1) Scheduling – Data Collection – & Tracking Support.
- (2) Consult Management responsibilities.
- (3) Program Support responsibilities.
- The incumbent must have knowledge of clinical services‑related software and programs as they relate to clinical computing and office automation.
- Major duties include but are not limited to:
- Performs work involving consult management – appointment scheduling and admissions scheduling.
- Daily responsibilities include collecting, compiling, and tracking data and statistical information in support of Veteran Transportation Service (VTS).
- Performs a basic analysis of the data and generates a variety of reports.
- Reviews documents, reports, and/or applications for omissions and inconsistencies and ensures data entry is complete and accurate.
- Enters pertinent information into an automated tracking system.
- Coordinates service practices that decrease waits and delays for patients in all specialty areas.
- Utilizes the Veterans Health Information System & Technological Architecture (VISTA), Computerized Patient Record Systems (CPRS), or SharePoint Consult/Request Tracking System in processing internal consultations.
- Plans for, organizes, administers, and directs how the work will be accomplished for the VTS program.
- Planning responsibilities require consideration of support services such as systems management, operations, workload forecasting, review, and reporting of data/statistical results of program/project studies, vehicle maintenance and repair, etc.
