What You’ll Do

Successful candidate will report to the Assistant Fire Chief of Support. Supports the technical, operational, and programmatic elements of fire department operations. Must possess the ability to navigate codes and standards as they relate to all aspects of fire department operations. Will write, review, and concur with technical, operational, safety, and training related documents and programs as they relate to the fire department, fire system operations, and emergency response activities.

Must possess communication skills and work as a team member on large projects. Will interface with Engineering, Projects, Facility Operations, Training, Procurement, Logistics, and Compliance, as needed, among other organizations throughout the site. Serve in a support functional role in the Tactical Operations Center or Emergency Operations Center as assigned.

Additionally, qualify and perform duties as coordinator/instructor, health and wellness coordinator, safety officer, or logistics manager during training or unplanned events. Prepares schedules, assigns firefighters, and conducts follow-up reviews to ensure compliance with work directives and proper fire protection and emergency response procedures. May organize and supervise fire suppression, emergency medical services, and hazardous materials emergency response activities toward predetermined goals and objectives.

Develops and implements fire protection programs and procedures in an attempt to eliminate personnel injury and/or property damage due to fire and explosion. Implements programs and procedures to ensure employee and facility safety is in accordance with all Occupational Safety and Health Administration, National Fire Protection Association, and Life Safety Code requirements. May determine work assignments, set priorities, and coordinate the activities of personnel in the fire department or supervise shift personnel and direct activities associated with the department's objectives.

As a team member or independent individual, assess and evaluate current fire department procedures and documents for accuracy to assure they meet acceptable standards. Perform management assessments of nonemergency work or actual emergency response activities to insure compliance with associated procedures, standards, or documents as directed. Must be able to analyze data, prepare and develop accurate, comprehensive, concise reports, and associated documentation as necessary or directed.

Minimum

Job Requirements
  • High school diploma and a minimum 7 years of relevant experience
  • OR an Associate degree with a minimum 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be certified by Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) as a Basic Firefighter at a minimum.
  • Must be certified by TCFP in Hazardous Materials-Technician.
  • Must be certified by Texas Department of State Health Services as a Basic Emergency Medical Technician at a minimum.
  • Must be certified by TCFP as a Fire Officer 1.
  • Must become certified by the TCFP as Fire Officer II within two years.
  • Must be certified by the TCFP as a Fire Instructor I.
  • Must become certified by the TCFP as Fire Instructor II within two years.
  • Must become certified as Fire Inspector II within twelve months. Plans Examiner Preferred.
  • Must possess ability to write reports and programmatic documents, develop metrics, create presentations, and deliver lesson plans to various groups.

Job Requirements

Experience in the fire service and fire service management and/or fire service training is preferred.

Specific experience in firefighting and related emergency response is preferred as well as certifications in related areas.
