Lead Field Technician – Critical Infrastructure

Location

Must relocate to or live in Atlanta, GA / Amarillo, Lubbock, Big Spring, Fort Worth, Dallas, El Paso, TX / Las Cruses, NM

Job Summary

The Field Lead – Critical Infrastructure is a senior field execution role supporting hyperscale and colocation data center construction projects ranging from 40 MW to 200 MW.

This role operates as the primary execution lead for assigned scopes, zones, or work streams under the direction of the Site Superintendent, coordinating daily activities across trades, directing field crews and subcontractors, and ensuring work is executed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with project requirements.

Essential Functions
  • Field Execution & Trade Coordination (40%)

    Lead day-to-day field execution for assigned scopes, zones, or work streams. Direct STC field labor and coordinate subcontractors and trade partners within assigned areas. Coordinate daily activities across trades including electrical, mechanical, automation, controls, networking, and commissioning. Participate in daily coordination meetings, site walks, and trade alignment discussions. Resolve routine field conflicts and sequencing issues; escalate complex issues to the Site Superintendent.

  • Schedule & Quality Control (25%)

    Develop and maintain 2–3 week look‑ahead schedules aligned with the GC master schedule. Track daily progress, manpower loading, and productivity within assigned scopes. Enforce QA/QC requirements and verify work complies with drawings, specifications, and approved plans. Identify constructability issues, installation deficiencies, and scope gaps; document and elevate with recommendations.

  • Safety & Risk Management (20%)

    Enforce OSHA, NFPA 70E, STC safety policies, and project‑specific safety requirements within assigned areas. Lead daily toolbox talks and support weekly safety stand‑downs. Verify compliance with JHAs, pre‑task plans, energized work permits, and high‑risk activity controls. Stop work for unsafe conditions within assigned scopes and immediately notify the Site Superintendent.

  • Coordination, Reporting & Communication (15%)

    Provide clear daily updates to the Site Superintendent on progress, risks, and constraints. Support preparation of field reports, look‑aheads, and site documentation. Interface professionally with GC supervision, inspectors, and trade leads as directed. Support lessons learned capture and continuous improvement of field execution practices.

  • Completion of assigned tasks and deliverables on time and on budget.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Position Requirements

Minimum 6–8 years of experience in field execution roles within mission‑critical, hyperscale, or complex MEP construction environments. Demonstrated experience directing field crews and coordinating subcontractors. Strong understanding of construction sequencing, safety practices, and quality control. Experience working under a Site Superintendent or Project Superintendent in large‑scale projects. Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and schedules. Working knowledge of OSHA, NFPA 70E, and high‑risk construction activities.

Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate across trades and escalate effectively. Proficiency with construction field tools and platforms (e.g., Procore, BIM 360, Autodesk Build, or similar). Ability to operate independently within a defined scope while aligning with site leadership direction.

Physical Demands

Frequently walking and inspecting active construction areas, including ladders, stairs, and uneven terrain. Frequently moving through indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to heat, cold, precipitation, dust, and noise. Occasionally required to position self under or over equipment, including in confined spaces. Occasionally required to lift or move materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Frequently required to wear PPE and work in high‑decibel environments.

Travel
