Wage: $22 - $25 per hour
Full-time position: 40 hours per week

Working Hours:

Monday-Friday 7:00 am – 3:30 pm (Typical) Occasional Saturdays on an as-needed basis / Overtime

Job Summary

Survey Technician I position is an entry‑on‑hand learning experience in land surveying. The individual will assist the Crew Chief in operating various survey equipment, executing fieldwork, and ensuring accurate data collection. This position requires strong teamwork, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.

Minimum Qualifications

The minimum essentials of basic math skills, including measurement conversions and evaluation calculations. Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions effectively.

Key Responsibilities Survey Equipment Operation
  • Assist in operating GPS, Robotics, and Total Stations.
  • Discuss equipment needs with the Crew Chief and prepare accordingly.
  • Ensure proper storage and maintenance of all survey equipment.
  • Construction Staking.
  • Learn and understand the different surveying requirements and techniques.
Field Preparation & Support
  • Communicate with the Crew Chief regarding daily duties and tasks.
  • Learn how to prepare for various types of surveying projects.
  • Assist in setting up and organizing equipment before field operations.
Teamwork & Communication
  • Work closely with the Crew Chief and other team members.
  • Maintain self‑motivation and organizational skills to support team efficiency.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, actively listening to their needs.
Measurement & Calculation Proficiency
  • Read and interpret measurements using a tape measure with 100th of a foot graduation.
  • Convert standard inches to 100th of a foot survey measurement.
  • Assist in running Level Loops and understand basic leveling procedures.
  • Maintain proper note‑taking format and perform basic elevation calculations.
Equipment & Vehicle Management
  • Load and unload survey equipment daily.
  • Ensure batteries are charged and ready for use.
  • Maintain a well‑stocked and organized survey vehicle.
  • Keep the vehicle clean and ensure the equipment is properly stored when not in use.
  • Communicate equipment or supply needs to the Crew Chief or Survey Manager.
Training & Development
  • Attend required company training programs to enhance surveying knowledge and skills.
  • Stay updated with new techniques and technologies in surveying.
  • Stay focused and avoid distractions on job sites. Be proactive in learning during downtime instead of engaging in non‑work‑related phone activities.
Safety Compliance
  • Comply with site safety requirements – OSHA and understand excavation standards.
  • Learn to complete pre‑job inspections, safety documentation and ensure timely submission.
  • Take time to review site plans, familiarize yourself with scope of work.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform physical tasks associated with surveying work. Strenuous walking and lifting catch basin grates/manhole cover, hauling equipment. Capable of lifting and carrying 50 lbs. Physically maneuver around construction sites, including accessing excavations, trenches, structures and other disturbed areas.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions and environments.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent study.
  • Employment is contingent on passing a background check and drug screening. Note that every year you may/will be required for recertification of both.
